Yes he was.  I didn't like his tattoos much either, now that you mention it.  It would have looked better if he had full sleeves.  I don't really like that "one here, one there" approach.  I think it looks ugly.

Surely this forum can do without such ridiculous comments. There are more than a few names (particularly in the genre of metal) that pop up on this board that I am not fond of. It certainly doesn't constitute a verbal bashing. In light of the way that Dimebag's life was ended, it makes it all the more distasteful.

Dimebag was shot by a crazed fan.
I think that deifying anyone, especially in the fashion as has happened posthumously to Dimebag, is somewhat distasteful.
Just because he's dead doesn't make him a no-go area for artistic criticism.

Getting back to the thread I have no tattoos but were I to get any I would be tempted to get an H.R. Giger style tattoo on my spine, where it won't be seen unless I decide to show it off (I don't understand the whole sleeves thing although my uncle has a fair few tattoos about his person).
I too use chicken as a measurement.

That Hitler dude is dead too, and no-one stops to defend him every time someone calls him a prick.

There is a stark difference between what you call "artist criticism" and referring to him as an "overrated hick". Ciriticism, especially when it is constructive, is fully understandable. But tossing lame remarks and terms around like that is not what I call artistic criticism.

Dimebag's death certainly doesn't make him no-go territory for criticism. That would be a ridiculous notion. It can be carried out a bit more tactfully though, can it not?

I like this better than "tattoo's flood"...  Usually I only like "sleeves" when it has a good distance between of the "things" (carps, skull, whatever) and the "fullfilling" (water, smoke, whatever) would have to be in different color... The slaves only in black and gray looks like ass to me, specially after a while after done...

I agree, I just think that could be made in a little more respectfull way...

If everybody start posting that they think X is for retards everytime they see X posted, this forum will be a hell...

+1 As I couldn't say that in a minimal decent way, I didn't say anything at all

Yes I agree that what was said could have been put somewhat better.

WezV, I was thinking of that as a design more for the love of H.R. Giger's artwork than anything else.

My thought was to get the idea that the bone structure was revealed and made of a chromium plated metal of some sort with some cabling visible underneath the ribs.
Not too cluttered.

Perhaps a bit too Nigel Tuffnel?

Maybe I should have it in its photographically correct shade of green.

Not sure I'd really want one that size though.

lol, i really must stop with the late night posting... i never did form the next big thing today, who knows... maybe tomorrow ;)

I do love Giger stuff but am not sure of its viabilty as a tattoo.  i have seen some good ones but worry about the longevity since they require so much fine detail.

anyway, thinking about spinal tattoos and biomechanical art after a night of drinking games and metal i used to listen to made me think of this
