Telecaster Plus/LaceSensors/Nailbomb recommendation.
« on: November 23, 2008, 12:15:14 AM »
Hello everybody I'm new on the forums and to BKP's and I am really looking for a recommendation. I have a Telecaster Plus(Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead) and while I am a fan of his heavily distorted sound due to the Lace Sensor Dually, it's cleans really do lack.

I looked into the Nailbomb and it seems to be a good choice as I am also a fan of Muse where Matt Bellamy uses NB's.
I'd like that really heavy distortion of Jonny Greenwood and Hullabaloo-esque crunch Matt had while also having a bit more versatility especially for other genres and more importantly in the cleans as the Red/Red dually seems to be a bit of a one trick pony.

I won't be replacing the Blue Lace Sensor for its cleans but I was wondering if the Lace Sensor and NB would go well together without losing too much of that Lace Sensor distortion. Thanks to anyone who answers.

Edit: The guitar also has the added mini switch for coil splitting the Humbucker.

Can't comment on the LaceSensor, as I've never played with one.

But, the Nailbomb will go heavy and clean with style!  I find my Nailbomb is really smooth at higher gain settings, compared to my Mule, which is rougher and more growly, with rich and chimy when clean.  I've got mine set to coil split in that PRS type way, using a Schaller Megaswitch, and I can get some pretty good Strat middle/bridge/neck sounds.

Nailbombs are the future!

Hope that helps.

Mark.

I would also consider the Holydiver. I have one in the bridge of a telecaster and it's amazing. A great clean tone that's pretty warm and clear and can handle all kinds of crunch and heavy distortion but still cut through a  mix.
Mississippi Queens, Holydiver.

Hmm...I'll look more into the HD but the NB might be the way to go. Something that has a bit of an equal balance in lows, mids and highs and not too much of one or the other and more modern sounding.

I think the HD is a bit more balanced
the midrange is fairly centered
if your guitar is alder or ash, it will definitely sound a bit more balanced than the nailbomb

Ah... The Tele is made of solid ash I believe but it also has a standard fender trem system so I don't know if that would affect it's tone through loss of wood, though it is fairly heavy. I wouldn't mind a bit more lows since ash is a bit brighter sounding but considering the Red/Red Dually has a whopping DC rating of 30.5K its a bit on the trebly side. This guitar also has a TBX tone knob.
