I use fingers or pick depending upon what I feel more comfortable with. Sometimes if I am playing a pounding solid bass line I might go with a pick but equally I use fingers for that bit of funk that Adam referred to. To me both are as easy/hard to do. I tend not to think about it much-more interested in the fretting hand. As Philly says, it does make your hands and fingers stronger.
