Cast-offs
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:10:22 PM »
Can't just be me that has a drawer full of old Gibson & Fender pickups( ok, small drawer!)
I've just never got round to trying to sell them. I guess the cash would come in handy, just wondered what other BKP users did with their old cast-offs?

I only have one installed pair of BKPs and my stock pickups (which were actually pretty good) were put into the boxes that the BKPs came in. I intend to build a small castle with them. Obviously not achievable in a lifetime though.

I've sold off the originals from most of the guitars I've BKP'd.

I tend to keep the original pickups in case I ever decide to sell the guitar (they don't last long in my house...).  But I've sold most of the unwanted Duncans, DiMarzios and things I had lying around.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I've sold them all on ebay.  The only ones I've kept are an old L500XL that a mate gave me and a custom-wound 11k A5 pickup from High Order that isn't worth selling as they're already so cheap (I'll probably try rewinding it myself one day, it's not up to much)

Have tons in a draw - Duncans, DiMarzios, Toneriders, GFS, Fender, Fralins.  Never sell anything, but i'm glad I keep the things as I have a museum of tone.  All have there plus points and I just can't despatch them off to someone else.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

I threw most of them away. They were all cheapo cr@p anyway.

I did keep the stock Yamaha ones.

I sell them all. Though I still have the Fender set out of my strat kicking around as they're worth so little they weren't worth the bother of ebaying them.

I tend to label and store them, though none of them have really come in handy yet.

I intend to build a small castle with them.

Ahhh!

Now I understand what my own little pile of BKP boxes with old pickups in is for!!

But I am glad to see I'm not the only horder here - I just don't seem to be able to sell anything.

so far i keep all pickups. however i should:

throw away epiphone/squier pickups
keep decent originals
sell dimarzio/seymour duncan

also have a load of unused BKP strings (don't really like 10s) and picks (a bit thick for me). though am starting to use the picks a bit/give them to friends.

I'll take the strings if you want to get rid of them  ;)

I use 10s and spares are always handy.  If you want to sell them, drop me a PM  :)

I don't use the BKP strings either - never used 10s since my Ibanez Sabre days (14 years ago).  All mine got given to a local guitar tech - he's done plenty of minor jobs free of charge (like reaming out volume pot holes on my Epi Explorer for larger CTS pots).

Gave most of them away, or sold them for a very small sum...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

We've kept all out stock pups against the day we might sell the guitar. a) you'd probably not get BK's worth back if you sell them in the guitar. b) most people have never heard of BK and that makes a guitar harder to sell.

The only ones that might be worth using are a set of Fender strat pups, the strat was a second and came with BK's fitted. The other set is Gibson pups from a 2008 SG standard, they never got played, BK's in the SG as soon as it arrived home :)

I like the castle idea, especially as a pile of magnets that big would mess up compasses for miles around ;)
