Question about Audacity
« on: September 29, 2005, 10:34:11 PM »
(i think this may be the right section but im not too sure...)

Anyway, why is it that sometimes when I record it records slower, and a half-step (pitchwise) down? It did it on that demo track of Lepersmesa's that I did, and its just done it again on something I wanted to do.

The thing is that I'm playing it live with the cd, all recording at once and in one go - so I dont want it to go slower! Its not like i want to slow the pace down. Especially if I'm improvising, and then at the end of a good take its all slowed down

Any ideas?

It ould be sample rates - if you play a 48kHz audio file at  44.1kHz it'll drop in pitch. Check your settings, I usually work from 44.1 as it's the same as CD so if you use a backing track it'll be in tune.

However if you have a Sound Blaster Audigy card you're a bit screwed 'cause it only works at 48kHz, so an imported CD track will play back fast and sharp....

What you need to check is that your soundcad is set to 44.1khz, that's the only thin I can think of...we had this problem at work, once we replaced the sound blasters the problem went!

I only used the stock soundcard that came supplied with the pc, it says its sample rate conversion quality is set to 'best' - but no specific value is given!

Its odd, because sometimes its fine and sometimes it isnt - like it just recorded one demo i just did a lot slower, so i recorded it again and it came out fine - it makes me feel like i'm missing something?
