custom paint jobs
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:46:14 AM »
Hi any one ever had any custom paint jobs done? Were they anygood?  I have been looking at some of the work at Inkyhollow based in Swansea.   Sort of thing I might fancy having done if money was no object.   What you guys think.

The quality seems ok but the style isn't for me, to cartoony.

I think I'd only do something like on a guitar that had a rubbish finish to start with, I'd never cover up a nice wood grain either.

But hell, it's your guitar! :)

I like the artwork, and if the guy's from Swansea he must be alright!

If I ever got something like that done, my main concern would be that they used appropriate hardwearing and long-lasting paints - with loads of clear coats over the top (in other words, that they know how to finish a guitar properly, as well as just doing the artwork).

One thing I notice when you look at sites like this one - they tend to do paint jobs on relatively cheap guitars.  Which I can understand, you wouldn't want to "risk" your £2,000 PRS - but on a cheapie the refinish probably costs as much as the guitar itself.

I am pretty into graphics myself but they have to mean something to you

This is the work in Progress on my "I AM THE LAW" guitar that my friend Nick painted for me
I used my normal paint finishers to go over his artwork to give it a tough outer coating

Some guitars, especially rock n' roll guitars look killer with a flamejob or pinstripes.

I've even seen some with 'true fire' airbrush made famous by Mike Lavallee of 'Killer Paint'.

I like all of the stuff posted so far. Generally I like plainer guitars but being an art fan I like guitars with cool graphics too, they seem like a great canvas to get creative on.

I did a stupid paintjob on my first guitar modding project, just bought the guitar and modded the cr@p out of it to try learning more about guitars. Not as good as anything posted but I think it turned out okay for a first go using spraycans..

i think that blood splatter looks pretty  good.. some of the ESP ones can look like they didnt know when to stop, that one is quite balanced
