PAINKILLER vs. NAILBOMB (comparison)

Hi guys...

After a very long time with the BKP in the cases, I was able to install them (actually my tech).

We first installed a Painkiller, and after playing a little with the amp, I noticed it a little tooo trebly/harsh to my personal tastes... so I decided to remove it and install a Nailbomb I had reserved for another guitar.

I made some fast clips with both pickups. same guitar, same sound.

PLEASE, Excuse my playing, was recorded in a real rush with no attention to the playing at all, so it sounds like shitee !!! (I warn you all !!! ).

Guitar: Caparison Orbit.
Tuning: C
Amp:  Axe-Fx direct recording, no postproduction, nothing, no eq, nothing, just as it was out...

Please, note that there may be a little difference in "volume" between both clips. I tried to put the outputs in the Axe like it was on the first recording, but cause a few  days passed, there is a possibility that they can be not 100% perfectly leveled.

They sound pretty similar in this clip, but dont know why they sound really different with my main amp (the Diezel Herbert).

My personal thoughts... I really prefer the Nailbomb WAYYYYYYY BETTER than the Painkiller... more thick, great palm mutes, and very great chords and also for phrasing...  (I'm rethinking about everything at this moment !!! damned it !!)

What do you think ???

they sound similar because is digital modeling tone i think, the nailbomb sound thicker anyway. its regular nailbomb? or ceramic nailbomb?

Regular... I may decide to get NB in ceramic, but not sure...

What would be the main difference ??? Would keep the feelling and nature of the NB with the ceramic ??? or would be completely different ???

So far, I prefer the thickness of the NB more than the PK for sure !!!

it's the same thing i noticed in some test recording i made with my POD... partly because digital modelling tends to take control of your sound, and partly because a great component of the actual impression that different pickups give is the different way they react to playing... so small differencies appear way greater than they are just by ear...

anyway in your recordings painkillers sound quite thin in comparison with nailbombs... i wish you had posted something "clearer". it's not your fault, in flames make very "muddy" riffs... :)

Yes, it's more than likely that...
 
I really noticed a huge difference "in person" with the Diezel Herbert... and I must admit I prefer the NB way way way more (at least in this guitar)... I like the bottom end of the pickup, and the bass is really great (At least for my music)

I must test it a little more, but I'm thinking on putting the NB in all my guitars, (not 100% sure yet... got some doubts... MM or NB for the Caparison Angelus ?? great doubt now ! ).

Btw... what would be the main difference in a NB with ceramic vs. Alnico V ??? Would keep the "personallity" and feeling of the standard NB ??? or would change adding "something" ??

if you like a huge bottom end maybe MM are too trebly for your tastes... for mine they are for sure! have you tried warpigs? i bet you'll love them... (listen to the song in my warpigs + nailbombs post... it will give you an idea)

if you don't like the painkillers, it might be because of the ceramic magnet. i'd stick with the alnico nailbombs.
