New BKPs day :0)
« on: December 03, 2008, 10:51:09 PM »
Yep, after a long-leg / short-leg mistake by me (sorry Tim  and thanks for turning them around so quickly!) I've finally got my Cold Sweats installed into McCarty Korina #2  :D

This thing just flat out rocks now!  :)  I've been playing Thin Lizzy tracks all evening, as it's perfect for that tone.  The Cold Sweats are quite bright compared to the stock McCarty pickups but they've fixed the problem I was having as the guitar was a bit dark and boomy before, and now it's thick and screaming.  Awesome.  Thanks everyone for not buying it when it was up for sale!

Cooooooooooooooooooooooold, Coooooooooooooooooold Sweat!  :guitar4: :band1:

No, #1 is staying standard.  She sounds just fine as she is  :)

Looks great!  :D

Those Cold Sweats do have a bit of an edge, don't they!  Must be interesting being able to do a side-by-side comparison with #1.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

I did that Phil  ;)

For some reason, #2 developed (with playing) to be a bit darker and softer sounding.  Sounds daft I know, but it's true!  Brand new it was similar to #1 then it darkened off a bit.  Odd.

Anyhow, now #2 has been brightened up both korinas are similar.  #2 is now a bit hotter and squeals pinched harmonics everywhere, whereas #1 is a bit more bluesy.

PRS McCartys -  I love 'em all  :D

Weird!  I wonder how mine would compare?  It is pretty warm sounding, maybe more like your #2, but I'll probably keep it stock for the forseeable future.

I've been playing my Tokai SG with Hunter's Cold Sweat set this evening (don't know any Lizzy licks, unfortunately...).  I think I'll be getting a set!

nice!
Tim should rename them to HOT SWEAT SET  :D :D :D
the bridge model is completely different from the neck version, but both are damn perfect
they don't have a lot of midrange, but the bridge CS is one of the most crunchy pickups I've heard

In the korina, quite a middy guitar, they work superbly.

Me like lots  :)

Exactly! My McCarty is warm and clear and has lots of mids. The sort of 'relaxed' (no serious peaks) mids of the CS work wonderfully.

Interesting thing you said about the tone of the guitar changing. In how long a timeframe? When I got my (second hand) -02 McCarty, it sounded great already. That's why I bought it of course! But now that I've had it for a couple of years (and it's been played a lot), the tone has changed slowly. It hasn't become darker, but it has somehow relaxed in the mids. In comparison, I feel like it was a bit stiffer when I bought it.  And yeah the change has been an improvement  8)

My strat on the other hand, I've had it less than a year. I haven't noticed changes in the tone of that guitar yet, and I don't think I will. It was built in 1990 and has already been played in. The strat has BKP 'No. 1' -set  in it btw.

I've had that McCarty about six months or so, and until recently it was played for an average of a couple of hours a day.  Not a huge amount, but it was enough to alter the tone a bit.  I've found that most guitars play-in a bit, not just acoustics.

I'm worried for you Dave... What if they release a McCarty II Korina?!
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.
