effects n stuff for not designed purpose

the title is a bit convoluted.. but its 8:50 and im at work, best i could come up  with..

does anyone use anything for something which it is not designed for....

i have just thrown together a quick pedalboard that i can take somewhere when i cant take my amp, a bit of a cheap 'will do the job' pedalboard...

i have a boss hm-2 (heavy metal 2) pedal.. i didnt like this pedal as it was very noisy and had pretty cr@ppy tone.. and no mid control (weird for a metal pedal i think)... but roll off the gain, and it gets an acceptable pink floyd driven tone. (acceptable, not great but good enough for my purposes)..

not quite what it was designed for. but anyone got any experience of using anthing for something it wasnt designed for??

I am currently using my fulltone OCD as a sort of clean boost. Turn the gain all the way down and the output volume all the way up. Not sure if this qualifies for this thread as I'm sure many people use it in this way!

I remember ages ago having a wah-wah pedal that if you plugged the cables in the wrong way round, it produced feedback that you could control the pitch with the pedal.

yea, thats what dave gilmour does on echoes.. its a pretty cool effect.

I use a Marshall Vibrotrem in the effects loop of my Randall, with the depth very low so the trem effect is almost inaudible. This works as a very nice (cheap) boost and adds depth to sustained sounds. It also gives a nice 1KHzish tone, more like a firebreathing mid boost sound than my normal sound. I pretty much dont play without it switched on unless im playing clean.

And Jimi Hendrix uses it as well in the EXP thingy on Axis Bold as Love.
