Sound Cards?
« on: December 09, 2008, 09:00:07 PM »
Is there anything I can stick in my PC and use it to plug my guitar in for recording / live performance with laptop/desktop for effects etc?

I'm looking at spending under £50 if possible. Cheers for any response guys.

Check eBay for the internal verson of the E-Mu, it's not as good as the external, but it might do what you need.

If you're wanting to use the laptop for live stuff, then you really need to have a lot of power... in a live situation, you can't afford to have any hiccups with the system- the last thing you want is to have the software hang half way through a song!

This is true

Make sure its XP (32 or 64) or Vista 64, and if vista 64, pretty high spec.

And on reflection, nothing round that price I know of is really for live stuff. You should probably just get a pod or a tonelab or similar. More money, I know, but thats the kind of piece of kit that fits your bill

get a Line6 toneport gx. it simplifies a lot of things for the guitarist who just wants to plug in and record.
