I was there!  That was the year I first got into rock and metal (or what we called metal then... no "br00talz" in those days, if there was I'd probably be listening to jazz now... ).

In '79 I was going to school dressed in the height of fashion, flared trousers held up by stripey braces and hair to the bottoms of my lug'oles. Grand times.

I was a die hard Queen fan and was into Kiss, Fleetwood Mac - didnt get hip to Def Leppard, Aerosmith till 1980/1

My school mates were into Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest, Samson, Hawkwind, Black Sabbath

Yeah, it was definitely the NWOBHM phenomenon and The Friday Rock Show (Tommy Vance RIP) which got me started, but I was actually more into the older bands like Rainbow, Purple, Rush, Robin Trower, Sabbath, UFO, Montrose.... exactly the same things I listen to now, really. 

Although thinking about it, all those "old" albums were actually only a few years old in 1979!  :lol:

Well, what we now consider 'proto-metal' was in full swing in '72. The New Wave was as much a celebration of its punk-ish, lo-fi approach as it was about the decline of the "Old Guard".

I was at then school too aged 14. Into The Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, The Who, The Boomtown Rats. I was very aware of the metal scene and loved it but the blokes at school who were into them didn't do too well with the chicks!  :lol: and you don't want to know what I used to get up to in 'maths' with some of the chicks I was at school with!  :lol:  PDT_028
