Suggestions for fuzz/overdrive pedal please?
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:55:39 PM »
So i crippled under the pressure and bought a Blackstar ht5, which appears to have a duff valve and so im taking it back for repairs or swap for a new one.

But thats not what this thread is about. When it comes back i'de like to have a fuzz or overdrive pedal to push the preamp a little more.

I'm looking for a basic "find a setting and leave it" kind of pedal. So no switches with different distortions and tone settings just a couple of knobs. Ive looked at muffs, tubescemers and some MXR but they seem to be the generic answer, i'de like something a little more off kilter. True bypass. 9v like boss pedals would be nice nut not overly important, just so i can use more powerbank which only currently has one pedal to power which makes it a bit pointless :s

Setup= Epi sg Lt. custom shop(with Lt. Emeralds set)---(sometimes EH octave multiplexer first)Blackstar Ht5---Marshall vibrotrem in FX loop---Randal 2x12".

Suggestions please.
Cheers :drink:

byoc large beaver

This is the UK distributer.. they are all True Bypass, work on 9V DC... you can spec it to classic muff versions.. (rams head, triangle etc)..

or a BYOC shreadmaster... Rat.. TS... etc etc.. thats my suggestion

What about a straight ahead boost pedal?  Rothwell F1 is my current favourite.

Or I have an Electro-Harmonix Linear Power Boost lying around that you can have cheap  :)

Booster with a bit of fuzz = Zvex Super Hard On
1 footswitch, 1 control and a stupid name to boot. What more could you want.

It to be of a phallic shape?

I'm sorry, I am of no use to this thread.

No not at all.
The name was meant to imply that it was "super hard on the amplifier"
Some people just have dirty childish minds :P

Any way back to the thread.....

Perhaps you could go to your local music shop and ask to see what the Zvex "Super Hard On" is like with an Electo Harmonix "Big Muff?"

Cheers fir the replies. I did mention that i wasn't into a muff because I would like something different.

BYOC seems like fun. Are they very intricate?? I've made a small pre-amp (which sounds horrible) and a noise gate (which I ever finished) so it should be ok. I think I'll go for the 250+ kit.

Devi ever pedals look very cool.

I built a BYOC proco rat, and it's pretty much a set and leave pedal. The Rat is a different flavor of distortion. Have a listen to this video for the sounds you can get just from it's clipping section

I bought a BYOC Tone Bender (2?) ESV, thats a pretty simple circuit and sounds really good, it's only a 2 dial pedal but it's easy to get great sounds. Sue also owns a zvex Fuzz Factory, which probably tops the BYOC overall BUT it's a 5 dial pedal and takes some work to dial in.

If you can hold a soldering iron you can build the tone bender, some of the others are more complex.
