Quick Cap Question
« on: December 18, 2008, 05:47:34 AM »
So, I've been hearing an awful lot about Orange Drop caps and Hovland caps.
I've been wanting a new cap.
The main differences I've heard and read about these two is that the Orange Drop caps usually have a smooth, low end sound.
Whereas the Hovlands have a brighter more open sound.
Can anyone verify this?
And what about Vitamin-Q's? :?
I've read a few hours worth on the forums about caps and different types, etc....
So if the Orange Drop caps do offer that smooth low end, that's what I'm looking for.  :D
Again, can anybody verify?
Thanks for any and all advice.

Cheers! :drink:

if you do a blindfold test you will never know the difference. that is what i think.

This is only my opinion, but I have been around the try this and try that capacitor loop and went back to a 0.022uf ceramic disc. I am an audiophist at heart and would have thought this would have been the last one to consider, but it seems to give the most balanced tone.

BC Orange drops seemed to scoop the mids a tad
Spague Orange drops seems to have more low end and less top
Mylars were good but lacked clarity.

However, each to their own. Everyone needs to make their own choice! Buy a range of 0.022uf capacitors and a toggle switch and switch between then and see if you can hear the difference.
