Sound City Lineout
« on: December 31, 2008, 12:35:09 PM »
My new Sound City has an option on the output plug to output line at 100V.

Am I correct in assuming I would need no reactive load to run it like this?

Also would a Boss Micro BR be up to the task as I would like to do some recordings?
I too use chicken as a measurement.

I think that's to run a slave head.  Do not run it with no load!!!!

The 100v tap is a leftover from the days when valve amps were multi-purpose and could be used for PA, guitar, bass or organ.  The 100v setting is used where you might need to run the cables between the amp and speakers over long distances (think of those early festival gigs where you see Wem and Orange PA setups).  The speakers in a 100v system have integral transformers to match the speakers to the 100v line tap.  The benefits of this system over a typical low-impedance setup (like used a small 500w pub PA) are that there is less signal loss and the cable gauge used can be much smaller.

Here are two much better and more thorough explanations...

OK. So it's for running as part an archaic P.A. speaker system.

It also fits with the fact that it seems to be built to create a totally unadulterated clean sound (with an ultra-powerful EQ) with four separate inputs.

Thank you.
