Which one?
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:38:37 PM »
Right, new guitar at Chrimble time (got the amp sorted pretty much) and I have narrowed it down to two contenders...

In the white corner we have the...

Ibanez PGM, Paul Gilbert Sig model, original looks, dont see too many of the around, 24 frets, hardtail, DiMarzio PAF PRO in the neck and Bridge with a JEM single in the middle, bolt on neck, basswood body, reverse headstock etc...£659 (but probably less through work)

And in the red corner we have the...

Jackson SL3, SD hot rails and JB, trem, 24 frets, neckthru, rosewood baord, alder body etc....£639

Now, Im stuck, the Jackson is very nice but it isn't very rockoutable, whereas the PGM is, plus you don't see them every day.  But, I've only played one for all of 5 seconds...

See my dilemma?

Anyways, if anyone has any pros/cons about either of them, do share :)

Andy!
GREAT GOOGILY MOOGILY!

i was going to get a PGM, as the volume control is in the 'right' place for me.. unlike the jackson...

in the end i paid £300 more and got my Legra axe, best of both worlds, unique to me, BKP equipped and EXACTLY what i wanted, no comprimises :D

You know you want a custom build... payment plans\arrangements are great (it takes a few weeks to go custom remember!!)

Agreed.

Between the two the PGM has more of what I'd personally want, but with that kinda cash there's a lot more to be found, especially if you look second hand!

I take it you're looking for a "shred" axe?

I guess the question is: Do you want a locking trem or not?

I'd go for a custom-made guitar too, by the way. In fact I have.

Thing is, I'd go custom if I had the cash, I know that I'd go mental on the design front and it'd end up looking like something already in production.

Personally, I really dig the PGM, but I think you should try and play it again for a little longer. Just to see if you do really like it.

I would get an RGA 121. I think they are awesome guitars. Really good feel. You can get them from www.guitarbargains.com super cheap like £400 quid and you would still have enough money to replace the pups with some bareknuckles.

Out of the two you have choose i would go with the PGM, mainly cus i hate HSS but i also hate HSH. I think they just get in the way and splitting a humbucker sounds really good for clean sounds.

custom could be good, but I dont know if you'll be able to get much of a custom guitar for the price range you seem to be looking in (£650ish).

What about the new Maverick F-Series? They are supposed to be good in a similar price point.
