What a dude! :D

Scary - my first amp looked very like the one behind him there (mine was a VS-Musician 100w with "valve-sound", oo-er!)

And even scarier - that's how I play G.

I love this clip connected to the first clip you posted:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=S0x0fgF0btI

I saw him live in the Blockheads, but he was long gone from the Feelgoods when I saw them... Funnily enough, I'm going through a Feelgoods phase at the moment, waiting for a best of and a CD copy of As It Happens to arrive.

And the recording I'm working on at the moment is a Feelgoods song (well, Larry Wallis wrote it, but it's one of my favourite Gypie Mayo Feelgood songs)...

I saw Wilko with Dr F a couple of times ..... probably the best live blues band I have seen ... Wilko and Lee Brilleaux were both excellent.
AND I also had  an HH VS-Musician  combo "valve sound"..... PDT_014,... I traded a 1970 Orange Matamp OR100 for it and had to sell my two Marshall pinstripe 4x12 cabs when I got married as I wasn't gigging at the time and our first house was so small it wouldn't accommodate a full 100 watt stack. (Also my wife said the OR100 did not match the curtain colour !!)...No surprise we got divorced....

Nice one Andy! That clip at the end, it's almost like a magic trick, looks easy but i bet it takes lots of practise.

I saw the Ian Dury and The Blockheads in 97, no Wilco then though.

I am having issues with Youtube tonight-files taking way too long to run and so I will get back to this. I watched the Feelgoods many a time at the Kuursal in Southend-those were the days!

Bloody hell, I was quite shocked how much he's changed!  :o  I've only ever seen him on those '70s/'80s clips (mostly from the Old Grey Whistle Test).   I remember watching that Rockschool series at the time - Deirdre Cartwright on guitar, Henry Thomas on bass and Geoff Nicholls on drums!

I'm always amazed by those Wilko clips - I don't know how he could keep up those stiff, jerky movements and intense stare - he's like an alien!

I am really glad that this gem of a man / musician has seen the light of day again.  The man for whom the phrase 'diamond geezer' was invented. Pure understated genius .  8)

( Surely Roo will learn a new respect for the balistic weapon that is the Telecaster after this one  ...  ).

Nah I doubt it FF.Roo has his mind set against Teles-maybe one day he'll see the light. Wilko is a superb player. When I used to watch the Feelgoods when I was a lad, he was mesmerising with the jerky walk and stare. One night, though, something made him laugh and he had a big grin on his face for a moment but then it was gone and he was back to his manic self. My mates didn't believe me when I said I saw him smile. They were too busy watching Lee.

 All the old geezers coming out on this thread!!

Good to see some love for Wilko/Feelgoods :D

I only saw the Feelgoods a couple of times - and it was the guy after Gypie Mayo, er, Johnny Guitar? But what a rhythm section, eh? - and Lee Brilleaux, well...

Because I came into R&B and blues from NWOBHM, Mr Mayo sounded great to me, the stuff with him on was what I really liked. Initally I just couldn't get Wilko's playing - it was from another planet almost. I've got the Solid Senders album somewhere, that kinda grew on me, but it's only over the years I've come to appreciate what an R&B machine he is :D

By the way Johnny, I kinda felt he was wasted in the Blockheads - fine, FINE outfit, but the amazing Wilko seemed to disappear into being "just the guitarist". He was still batting about etc, but there was just too much else happening on stage so you didn't really notice him most of the time... Actually, it was at a festival, and the Feelgoods were on the bill as well, and there was rumour that... maybe... but sadly, as far as I can remember, it didn't happen...

Never actually saw them, but I remember seeing a gig on TV - I think it was probably on Rock Goes To College.  I guess it would've been with Mayo, certainly not Wilko.  I thought it was fantastic, but for some reason I never bought any of the albums.  Maybe I should.

'ere... enough of this agist stuff ... or I'll run you down with my Zimmer frame   PDT_021

Dr Feelgood were one of those groups that seemed to generate a 'feelgood' atmosphere at their live gigs. Very basic, raw rock/blues. Loved Lee B's harmonica playing and Wilko's robot walk and manic stare.

Typical Dr F gig:- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AFcgVJjzwao
