Can anyone price up a Vintage Jazz Bass??
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:18:20 PM »
A mate of mine has a either a 62 or 65 Fender Jazz Bass in crimson red with matching headstock. Looking at Fenders website an L 50,000 serial puts it at 1965.
Condition wise the nitro is cracked as to be expected and there is a few dings.
Ebay currently has a 1979 model for 3 grand.

Its a rosewood fretboard.

Any of you knowledgeable chaps know anything that may help?

But for a quick sale, I'd give £500.00 for it.

Hi Johnny,
If it's the metalic red it will be Candy Apple Red and that colour fetches a premium.  If it is not metalic it will be Dakota Red, which is still a great custom colour.  Anyway,  I would take it to either Vintage & Rare or Kings Road Guitars to let them give you a valuation.  It will be up in the thousands though if it is all original.  If I win the lottery I'll PM you!!
Cheers
Phil

£3k for a 1979 is out to lunch. (Although there is a 1979 hardtail Strat on the 'bay for £3,995 at the moment).

The key is originality. There are tons of refins out there.

Assuming that the finish is correct, you would probably be looking around the £7-8k in the UK market, although I expect this might be worth a bit more in the US at the moment.
