To the music store
« on: January 14, 2009, 07:47:41 PM »
Alright here is the deal I am going to a music store today. I live in Mexico and I am in route to Texas. Dont go very often. I am a missionary by the way thats why I live down here.

I have a great distortion Radial London Bone a BBE stomp sonic, a Boss ensemble (I love it) and a DigiDelay. Now I have been noticing that when I do bends and such things the note dies away a little too quick in stead of SCRREEECH
its like screech. If you understand what I mean. While I am up there I dont have much time to shop. So The pedals that I was thinking would help me with this problem would be a Boss Cs3 comp sustained, or a reverb or better delay. My amp and Distortion are good. Just want something to add a little more magic and kick to the mix. What do you guys recommend that I look at.
I play mainly nwobhm aerosmith metallica. Hendrix SRV

A compressor will certainly give you more sustain.

Are you sure the problem isn't more about the action and neck of your guitar ?  Your notes may simply be getting choked off when you bend them if the action is not right.  Maybe try raising the action a little bit too.

Avoid the boss compressor/sustainer, you can get much better compressors for that price (Alesis 3630 for example). Youll get a maximum of 1 second more of sustain from it, like you would with most compressors, and it will colour your tone horribly.

First thing I would check is your strings. How old are they? Old strings (depending how long you play, but you should change them at least every 2 month, even if you only play once a week) wont sustain as much as new ones. Try popping a new set on, it could improve the sustain heaps.

What guitar do have? Certain guitars wont sustain as long as other ones, and it would be helpful to know if youve got one of them.

The other thing you could do is... TURN IT UP. Besides being more rock and roll, turning your amp up will give you more sustain.

Yer I would first try going over you're set up. Like restringing and checking neck then intonation and action, changing the height of the bridge may help a little bit. Then revising your amp gain and volume. Maybe less gain more volume. Look at everything you've got before looking for something else.
Other than that I've not heard alot of good about the boss pedal, but if youve not got much time for shopping it may do the job until you can arrange for something better. Or you might like the boss pedal. Take your guitar and try it in the shop if possible.

Looked at the Guyatone ST2 that looked the best from the internet. Any of you heard of it?
