Blackmachine Pickups
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:16:05 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm currently waiting on a Blackmachine B2, a couple guys have them here I see from nosing around, so hopefully I can get some advice  :) It's a normal B2 with the ebony top. It'll be tuned to C and I play through a 6505.

This guitar is going to be my primary metal guitar, I like tones like those on the last few Enslaved albums particularly and Akerc--ke, Nachtmystium - clear but still heavy, but also really harsh stuff like recent Napalm Death, Anaal Nathrakh and good heavy as hell but cutting stuff like the last Nile record.

Basically, really aggressive but super tight and clear.

Thanks guys, hope some of you can help  :)

Which body wood are you going for? It makes a pretty big difference to the sound.
Doug is the best person to speak about, but I think he'll recommend Painkillers, whichever wood you choose.
Unless you've had the phone call to say he's about to start work on your guitar, it may be better for your sanity if you don't start worrying about this kind of thing just yet  :)
Congrats though, the ebony guitars are amazingly understated and utterly beautiful. I definitely want one at some point when I've satisfied my crazy timber urges..

To be honest, we've not spoken specifically about body woods, I simply said I was after a standard B2 with the Ebony top, as described on the website, so swamp ash, rosewood neck, ebony top and board.

I haven't had that phonecall, no  But I paid the deposit in March, and he talked about around a year lead time... Obviousl I will speak to Doug about it, but he's not exactly full of chat in email corespondance

From my reading of this forum I'd though Painkillers, I have cermaic warpigs in an all mahogany superstrat and think I would like a lot more articulation and definition of possible.

Cheers again guys.

Ah ok, well, remember, you've signed up for a guitar to be built at some point in 2009. I'm on the same list as you, and to be honest I'm not even expecting a guitar in the first half of this year. From my experience it's best to stay as zen as possible and remove it from your thoughts till the he gets in contact with you. Doug's not the chattiest in his emails, but phone him and you'll find him very talkative and helpful, so I'd suggest doing that instead if you want to discuss things.
Whether you go for swamp ash or mahogany (and bear in mind that Doug's mahogany instruments are actually his brightest ones, contrary to conventional logic), you'll almost certainly find it in a different league of articulation and definition to anything you've played previously. That said, I still think that Painkillers are going to be the beasts for you. They're Doug's favourites to boot.

You know the Cpig and thats what you want?

Painkiller.

Bear in mind that the B2 is gonna be, if reputation is anything to go by, more articulate than the mah superstrat, and BKs let A LOT of the guitar through.

+1 on what Nolly says. The only guitars being built early 2009 are the ones that should have been shipped out in 2008.

As for pickups, wait until Doug calls you & ask him. He's lent amps to Napalm Death so he knows the score fo' sho'.

Rough guess, though, the C-Pig will destroy. ;) More girth & less clarity then the Painkiller, but the PK is Doug's fave pickup at the moment as he's a clarity freak.

Got an A-pig set coming in my mahogany B7 myself because I'd rather lose a little clarity for extra pummelling.
A-Pig 7s, Miracle Man & Mule, Cold Sweats... Expensive kit and no talent posse.

Sorry to bump a massively old thread, but I remembered a few people on this forum seemed to know Doug at Blackmachine.

The guitar I ordered and payed a deposit for in March 2008 still hasn't been built and Doug's not replied to my last couple emails, does anyone have another way of getting in contact with him, myspace or anything?

Thanks

Yes, hope you can get in touch with him... Perhaps one of the Blackmachine guitar owners of the forum can help you with a phone number...
