MiracleMan VS. L-500XL
« on: January 24, 2009, 11:35:08 PM »
first off I play mostly metal and I currently have the Bill Lawrence 500xl in the bridge and Im fairly pleased with it but I was wondering how this pup stacks up against the MiracleMan and do you guys think it would make a big difference and be worth the money to give it a try?

I dont have any experience with the BL but i can tell you that the MM is an absolute monster that can go from old school thrash to the more modern metal and even extreme as death metal.

Cuts through very well and id say its just about the right hotness.

It's easily my favourite bridge pickup.

The MM has less high mids, more low mids and bass, about the same treble, they're about as hot as each other, the MM is smoother, not a chainsaw.

the miracle man has a ton more output and 10 ton more low end
the cold sweat is a better substitute, imo
and gets me closer to Pantera too

(I had the 3 pickups)
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Well, here's my experience, FWIW. If you're talking about a Bill Lawrence USA L-500XL, I found them to be harsh, regardless of who endorses them.  I'd take a MM over them any day. Bill and Becky Lawrence made L-500XL's are another story, IMHO. I REALLY like them. They were my favorites before I found BKPs. They have taken up permanent residency in my Rich Bich, and there they will stay. They're awesome for high gain and. in my experience, clean up better than the MMs when you roll down the volume, if that's an issue for you. The MMs, to my ear, have more highs and high mids than the Bill and Becky L-500XLs, which I find to be really well balanced. I don't find the a big difference in low end response, but the others may be referring to the Bill Lawrence USAs. So, it depends on what you're looking for. Don't get me wrong, I love my new MM I put in my Explorer. They're both great pickups, just different. Buy more guitars and use both!
