Last night gwEm came to visit and we pulled out quite a few guitars (4 juniors, 3 teles, 4 Strats, WezV JB SG and Lap Steel, 1 real Mockingbird and 1 Warmoth one, 3 pickup National, Raven West PRS Hollowbody Clone, and Zemaitis Metal Front guitars, Gibson Thunderbird IV, Rickenbacker, Precision and Jazz basses).  Once again the wife was out for most of the night!  In doing all this we were talking about this point, of how much stuff we have and also trying to get down to just 2, which would actually be 2 that we didn't bring out last night, my 53 conversion LP and 61 Strat.  However then I wouldn't have a P-90 guitar, and I love the sound of P-90's, nor would I have the BC Rich that I searched out, or a Junior, which I always think are the greatest rock guitars, I wouldn't have my 335 or a Tele (I know Roo doesn't care about that).  I also wouldn't have a bass or acoustic.  So after some debate, I think that I could possibly get by with 12 guitars, but that would really be pushing it :P

Once again, my real thing is that I love guitars.  One of the easy examples to give is how I like the difference in tone between my 1959 Junior, 1964 SG Junior, 1965 Epiphone Coronet and my clone of a 59 junior (which is already 15 years old!).  They all play differerently, have different feels, but basically are a piece of mahogany, with a set mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, wrap around bridge and with a single P-90.  When I am talking all these differences for a guitar with the same single pickup, it is easy to see why I have so many!

At the end of the day the reason I have so much stuff comes down to the same reason that dogs lick their bollocks

because they can!

btw.  I am always happy to have people around who enjoy good english ale and guitars.
So many pickups, so little time

Oh cr@p, because of falling in for GAS and making a hit on the Feline Gothic Warpig SG im stuck with my Gibson SG GT, and borrowing my brothers roland microcube having gotten rid of my TT combo, oh i so miss that tube sound  :( But i couldnt feel happy enough with my Gibson SG GT and im positive that the Feline will hold much more quality, and then ill order a martamp as soon as possible. And i also have a Ibanez weeping demon which i use sometimes, but i rarely have use for a wah and it does suck tone when not in use, wish it had true bypass!

OK here goes:

Current electric guitars(in order of purchase/build-all bought new except the doubleneck):
'78 Fender Tele (my 1st guitar)
'83 Gibson Explorer (my current "problem child")
'84 Carvin V220
Late 80's Westone HSS ?Corsair?
Late 80's MIJ Fender Strat
Late 80's Carvin doubleneck
'94 Gibson Flying V
Warmoth Strat w/ Callaham tremolo & Kinmans
Korean Dean Cadillac Select
Korean BC Rich Bich
Just sold 2 weeks ago -  Edwards Michael Schenker Flying V
'06 Gibson Flying V w/ custom Michael Schenker black/white paint
HSS partscaster Strat w/ Fender body/neck, Callaham trem, NB bridge
'08 Epiphone Toni Iommi model SG (bought last week...total GAS..but it's way nice for an Epiphone)

Acoustic guitars:
mid 70's Alvarez 12 string
non-descript Yamaha 6 string I take camping

Amps:
Peavey Ultra 112 combo (home and occasional bar gigs)
Peavey Ultra 60 head w/ Carvin closed back 4X12 - v30 Celestions (rehearsal studio and occasional bar gigs)

Effects:
none (gave my son my 80's boss equipped pedalboard a few years back - it was gathering dust)
I'm thinking of trying some sort of OD to drive the front end of my tube amps a little more, but it's only a thought. I get good sound straight out of the amp.
Oops- I do have a Boss TU-2 tuner

I've been playing a long time. Did the whole LA 80's metal thing. Nowadays I play twice a week with guys I've known since my teens and do the occasional bar gig for kix.  At this point, I play for fun, relaxation and the comradery of my long time buds. Anyway, I try to take most of my guitars out every now and then, but usually have my favorites of the moment that I'll play more at any given time. If someone told me I could only have two guitars, I'd let the middle finger fly and walk away.  I've worked along time to be able to afford to buy each and every one of them. I've only sold three guitars that I've purchased over the years, and those to friends. Sure, I don't need all these guitars, but they make me feel good. I think I'm entitled to that. A few of my guitars hang in my hallway as art.  I think they're as beautiful as any painting I could put up. I also love taking them apart , changing, experimenting and hopefully improving them. What other hobby combines all those different aspects? Ooops, I guess I got a little carried away, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it

Lets see, I have a couple of guitars that I only use rarely, but when I do, I'm always glad I have them there.

I don't think I'll ever become a collector for the sake of it.

I'm thinking some people are taking my thread a little seriously... it was just a theoretical question! I only have 6 electrics and it would be hard for me to decide which to keep if I had to! In reality there would be at least 5 for me, I just wondered what you'd prefer to keep if there was absolutely no other alternative due to some serious ... I mean it's not like I'm telling anyone what they should spend their hard earned on.

It was just a bit of fun fella's!

I guess the more I think about it I'd chose my Wayne T type (H/S/S) simply because it plays and sounds superb, very versatile  and my electro. Obviously things would have to be pretty bad for me to let my others go... but this is for fun (although I doubt it would be very funny!).

I'm sure everyone thinks it that way :)

It's all witty humorous banter. Or I should think so. I don't see why anyone should get all piped up at a topic like this.

Absolutely! Hope I didn't come off like a complete a**hole...not my intention in the least. I'm just passionate about my guitars.

It's all cool... I just didn't want folk thinking I was criticizing 'coz I haven't got such a big collection... hell, if I was in a better situation I'd have a house full of stuff! :D

Well I'll give it a shot  as well then, I'm mostly a pedalfreak. :)

Guitars:
- Ibanez S470DXQM (now loaded with Dimarzio's, aiming to put MM's in there)
- MXG Fiesta Red 60's Strat, relic with custom wound pickups
^^these are my main guitars, the Iba is my most used^^
- Stagg Tom Delonge sig. copy (present from my girlfriend, not a bad guitar actually)
- Yamaha electro acoustic, forgot the modelname
- Alhambra acoustic

Pedals:
- Korg PitchBlack tuner
- Ibanez Weeping Demon wah
- Snarling Dogs Blues Bawls wah+overdrive
- Dunlop Crybaby (Hot Potz + Fasel + added volume and other mods)
- Electro Harmonix Doctor-Q
- Electro Harmonix Big Muff (USA reissue)
- Electro Harmonix Big Muff (Sovtek vintage 70's)
- Boss SD-1 overdrive
- Self built Muff Fuzz (volume and bias knobs) + Super Hard On booster (boost knob)
^^bias low + booster high and volume high => Very fat gated synth-ish sound^^
- Digitech Grunge (for bedroom practice)
- Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus
- Boss DD-20 Giga Delay
- Boss FS-U Modified with 2 jacks for momentary muting (nice if you have short breaks in the song and don't want to tapdance twice)
- Self built switcher, to switch one pedal between two spots in the chain (intended for delay of wah)

Amps:
- Laney VC100 212 combo
- Peavey Rage 158 (for bedroom practice)

Basically I only use the Weeping Demon of the wah's, and I use the Sovtek a bit more than the USA Big Muff.. but for the rest I use everything regularly. :) I think the core would be the Weeping Demon, SD-1, Sovtek and Delay.
MXG custom '60s fiesta red strat
Ibanez S470DXQM
-->shiteload of pedals-->
Laney VC100
