I've heard a lot of good comments about Martamp Amps's in this forum and with the current value of the pound going through the floor and the fact that i like playing british gear i just wanted to glean some info about their models.

I'm looking for an early 80's Rock/NWOBHM Rhythm Tone which i can chuck pedals in front of to boost into lead territory and saw the 36 watt TT Model (which i would probably get with ss rectifier for more tightness) and just wanted to know whether anyone had any experience using these amps?

I think it's fair to say that apart from Martin, I'm the person with most experience of his amps  ;)  I've played his 18w and 36w models, but I don't own one.

The 36 watter is a great amp.  Lots of gain, even more so in TT format, and the EL84s give it a thick midrange-y tone.  You may not need the pedal if you've got the extra gain engaged to be honest.  And you can really crank them to get the power stage cooking  :D

I think there are one or two people here on the forum who own one of his 18w or 36w models who can add some more info.....

Sweet... as well as playing metal, i love a saturated lead tone Gary Moore style, i think i may have to sort out a closer inspection, if people have any clips of the 36w or 18w TT doing hard rock / metal riffing and lead, please let me know as i'm at that stage of.....'my guitars are sorted..now for the amp'

Depends on your definition of metal.  Old school JCM800-ish, yes.

Hi MOTE, thanks for the interest.  :)

I haven't got round to doing a set of clips yet, but here's a clip I've borrowed that gives you an idea of the sound of the 36W Roadstar. Note that it's NOT my amp, (and not me playing) but it is the same type of architecture and valve type as mine, so will give you an idea of it's character. TF will validate that.

Sadly, some b*****d nicked my 36W demo amp, and I've just recently ordered the parts to build myself a new one. It's my favourite rock amp I'd have to say.

You probably would... but our idea of high gain is different. I'm not talking about a JCM800 0_o or old school Vanhalen sounds.

When I say high gain I'm talking about VHT/ENGL/Diezel and unless he's started making pcbs I doubt he has a high gain amp 8)

He won't be doing that level of gain as standard I don't believe......

actually, i'd be very interested in a martamp, except my experience with amps seems to be that i have no clue if i'll like them or not until i try them... :lol: not even because they're not good amps (i'm sure martamps are great- everyone else seems to think so, anyway), just because they don't suit me...

To clarify, the OP did ask about high gain amps as in NWOBHM etc, which I do make.

To respond to the point about brootalz, I currently have no interest in doing an amp with that level of distortion for the simple reasons that (i) the advantages of handwired, turret board construction are less apparent with that much tonal mayhem and (ii) no-one has given me a deposit for one!  :wink:

PCB's are neither here nor there. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
