There are at least two other cricket fans on here, and I always find it an interesting topic as so many people are totally confused/bored by the greatest sport on earth :P

So any other willow and leather fans out there?
Flames also welcome, I'm always amused by the tirade of vitriol spewed forth by my work colleague on the subject of crickets sometimes archaic laws ...

Sorry guys, no love and not much vitriol, but I do find cricket very boring....

....nowhere near as boring, though, as American football.  I accidentally watched some of the "Super"( :| )Bowl last night when I happened to turn on BBC1 and saw Springsteen's half-time set.  God, cricket's dull but at least it's continuous.  They don't stop the clock for 5 minutes every time anything happens.  :x

What did you think of the half time show Philly? I thought it was alright - good to see a few old classics in there, not sure if I like his new song though. Sounds a bit half hearted to me.

Well, I'm not actually a Springsteen fan, TBH.... but he can certainly put on a show. 

I enjoyed it, and as the commentators said afterwards, he made it seem like a proper gig rather than "half time entertainment".

I don't mind a bit of Cricket sometimes, even though I don't always understand all the rules and terminology. I watched a game in the Ashes at the SCG when I was in Australia 10 years ago, it was a great day, bloody hot though!
Darren Gough got a hat trick that day.

I do like cricket. I remember playing against some Aussies once - my mate decided to defend his wicket for a solid hour. Nothing fancy, just blocking. Wound the Aussies up a treat. He kept telling them it was the English way.

I'll admit it can be a bit dull at times ... I watched South Africa defend all day at Lord's last year, 1 wicket all day. Still, was apparently gripping if you were a Saffer.

Getting into the Twenty20 too, especially as my team (Middlesex) won last year.

But you can't beat a gripping Test with all it's twists and turns ... Kasper gloving Harmison at Edgbaston in 2005 was one of the greatest sporting moments I have whitnessed (the whole match was one of the best ever) ... The slow descent into despair, then bang! He wasn't actually out of course, but far too close for the umpire to do anything other than raise the finger.

Sue got me into cricket, we don't watch much, but I do try to watch the home international season, and we've been to a few Hampshire matches and it's been a great day out.

I still don't get half the rules, or the position names, but I've gathered enough to know whats going on (ish).

Me too, especially if it's played somewhere far away from me, and televised on a channel I'm not watching. I can thoroughly cope with several continuous days of cricket that way.  :D

I have got into as I have got older-I belong to the local cricket club as a social member and watch a few games as it is just a walk away and I can have a cheap pint or three.

love cricket... though i'm glad i stopped when i did (when i finished secondary school) because i'm not good enough to play at a higher level, but more importantly was always scared i was going to get hurt. :lol: love watching it, though. :)

i can't see england reclaiming the ashes, i mean the aussies gave south africa a good series there, and india too (even though they didn't win- but it was a lot closer than england's attempts!). it doesn't help that the selectors seem to go out of their way to pick a cr@p team.

I absolutely love cricket.  I'm a member of Middlesex but I'm taking a year off seeing the internationals and the county final this year.  I shall see as many county games at Lord's as work permits though.  In truth I'm a Northants fan but as I live in London Middlesex are my adopted county.

As to England winning the Ashes? I don't think so.  England don't have enough aggression collectively in the bowling department.  Watching our seam attack fail to make any inroads into the South African top order last summer at Lord's showed that they don't have the variety to force batsmen to make mistakes.  Oh, and we have a captain who can't play one-day cricket.  I have the nastiest suspicion that we're back to where we were just before Nassar Hussein and Duncan Fletcher took over, i.e. some talent but no real idea how to apply it and no consistency in selecting it.
