Warm neck pickup to go with holy diver
« on: February 03, 2009, 04:51:24 PM »
Hi guys I'm pretty much set on getting a holydiver for the bridge of my EC-1000 (mahogany body and neck) as I've heard its the best for thick Tool type tones and isnt too hot.

I just not sure what neck pickup to go for, I usually only use the neck pickup for cleans (im not much of a neck lead player) And im looking for something like the dragon 2 neck i have in my prs Custom 22, very warm but clear with sweet highs. What do you guys recommend to go with the holy diver? Ive heard/understand that the holydiver neck is quite bright for a neck pickup.

The only BKP neck pickup I have experience of is the miracle man neck which is good but i would like more warmer bass and sweeter highs (more of them too) if possible.

Any thoughts guys?

When I had a HD bridge in my Epiphone LP Custom, mahogany body, maple top neck and board, I felt it was very thick and never used the neck (stock), as the HD could cover that sound on its own.
Considering you have an all mahogany guitar, you may want to think carefully to get a good middle position match  with the HD. Also not sure how the bridge would fare in mahogany too..

Black Dog would be great I think. Cleans up beautifully with a lot of meat.

The ec1000 has quite a thin body so its more like an SG tonally than a les paul (it only has a maple veneer on it). I really need something thick as even with a warpig (which is in there now but is moving into a different guitar) its not overly bassy or muddy, its just too hot and compressed for the lower gain stuff.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to find a clip of the neck pickup in action....

An EC1000 is thinner than a Les Paul body? I thought they were the same.

The only clean neck pickup that's awesome that I can go by is the Cold Sweat, it's very... melted chocolate.

I would also recommend that - Cold Sweat is the way to go!

Its slightly thinner than my custom 22 and about 7-8mm thinner than my tremonti singlecut which is about the same thickness as most of the les pauls I've played.

The cold sweat sounds good but in the clips ive heard i want it a bit fuller in the bass...

The cold sweat neck is very full in the bass if you put it in a mahagony guitar, it's almost too much for me!
