My loe afari with reaper is sadly in danger. You see, it doesnt have zero latency monitoring for effects. Its pretty bad, even with a fireface (~2ms in, 3 out).

BUT if you want decent for very little money, reaper is the no-brainer. Just be aware of that flaw.

Cubase is bundled on most things these days in its basic form. Its a good place to start. Do expect to get tourettes for a few days at first though.

You'll need an interface and I found one in a skip that is brand new made by Alesis, an I0 2. The things people throw out baffles me!

It should work ok, i've had it in my airing cubbord for 3 weeks so there won't be any moisture in it now. I think it just need the usb lead and the drivers.

There's a good reason why it was thrown out, it's RUBBISH

My ex flatmate bought one, it was diabolically bad, do NOT get one!

Logic 8 is up there with PT for most things and better for some-including learning curve, we've not got PT8 installed yet though and that's meant to have some improvements. Anyway!!

If you have loose morals get handy with torrents!  ;)

Check out Computer Music magazine which has a cover disc with a fully featured free recording package with VST effects and it sounds good too.

Are you sure? I get no latency (as far as I can tell) when monitoring through Reaper, with Amplitube 2 and occasionally a few more fx on like delay etc.

Maybe you're on about something completely different though, but when I play through it, it's never a problem with my "lesser" interface (Edirol UA-25EX)

Quite certain. I get pretty much none when playing straight in, but as soon as I stick an effect on anything, latency goes out the window.
