Worst day at work
« on: February 07, 2009, 06:41:59 AM »
Yesterday was probably the least enjoyable day I've had in my working life so far. I work in the IT department of a small mortgage broker, just me and one other guy. Yesterday I had to make him redundant due to the mortgage market being somewhat dead at the moment. Other departments also lost people, about a quarter of the company all told.

I've never had to make someone redundant before and it sucks. I've been made redundant before, and I suppose it is worse on a personal level, but to have to tell someone, sorry you're out of a job, is really unpleasent.

Sorry to hear about that mate. I can imagine that must have been hard to do.

I had a shitee day yesterday myself. The whole mood in work at the moment is just terrible. Not just where I work but everywhere.

I played my guitar late last night whilst drunk on whisky, it felt so good!

I am hearing some awful stories similar to yours. It must have been traumatic for you as well as for your colleague. Lets hope things pick up.

Yeah, not nice.

I work in a pretty large IT department, for part of the Barclays group, who announced something like 4000 IT redundancies globally last month!  Found out last week that I was safe, for now, and it's such a relief - I don't thing that I realised how stressed I was by the whole process.  As I get older I guess I have more to lose...  I suspect that there will be more Barclays redundancies later in the year.

Where I work we do a lot of work for Barclays.  And we're starting to struggle because they're not spending much on refurbs at the moment.  So, like everyone else I'm pretty worried about losing my job too.

Pah, I made a 14 year old girl cry yesterday. Top that!

On a serious note- the job market seems like a tw@t right now, hope everyone is safe while this downturn is continuing.

Was going to make a joke about my massive penis, but that's just not right.

I was pretty blunt with a pupil and she didn't take it too well... Might have an awkward moment in monday's lesson, but the principal teacher said not to worry. So not only made her cry but got away with it!

This is the only time i am ever going to be glad that i'm working in a cr@ppy job in a cr@ppy supermarket, right now my jobs pretty safe. Though i might move to a bigger chain if i get the chance.

Also glad i didn't continue my college course, otherwise i'd be in IT too (most likely networking, or getting really pissed off with the real problem in IT, the muppet infront of it) aren't IT guys the first to get laid off?

It must absolutely suck to lay someone off :(

Some how that dosen't seem too hard to do. Just tell a 14yo No! and the pissin and moaning start. The crying is all part of their DNA.
