Well, he can play guitar substantially faster than I can.

Of course, I'm not really bothered and I'll wager I had WAAAAAAAAAAY more fun through my teens than he did and I'll bet I've winched WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more hot lassies than he will in his life. So I can cope with his superior pace.

Oh, also, his music is abysmal and sounds 100% like I imagine everyone would guess it would after watching that video. I remain unconvinced.

Its gone too far. Whats the point of speed over every other element of music? I've seen this bloke before, its just awful, its not even music it sounds like a kid playing with a theramin.
He couldn't play with soul or make it sound funky and musical. He is robot like. I remember watching Rusty Cooley do a few bends in his w**kery and this nob is no different.
For me the best all rounder I've heard and seen is Guthrie Govan, his music and playing are phenomenal.

Do you catch them on meat hooks?

Deep fried ones, mostly.

You can't really prove if someone has "soul" or not, that's the beauty of music. I think Yngwie is one of the most soulful players to ever pick up the instrument, but I accept that others find his playing wanky even though I don't understand why they think so. What moves you may not move someone else. I hear so many blues players that I think lack soul. Yeah, they play the same licks and turnarounds that Freddie King played 50 years ago, so where's the imagination, where's the individuality, where's the soul? But that's just my thoughts, I'm not telling you to feel the same.

Btw, I laughed quite a bit at that first video.

I think the reason behind super duper fast guitarists is that they are really competitive people because speed can be measured, where as soulful playing can't be measured and is more to do with an individual expressing themselves

Wonderfully put.

I think that is one of the most important differences between art and sport.

That weird young man in his leather jacket and Oakleys is an accomplished sportsman (possibly "watersports" from the look of his myspace picture)  :?

Yes I agree, well put JDC!

  I haven't seen his myspace but the black vest in the eeeeOOOOOeeeeeeeOOOOO sounding clip on you tube spoke volumes. It goes back to not getting out enough.

Edit

Pmsl, I just had to have a look at the pic on myspace. I'd love to be a fly on the wall if he did a gig in the pubs (which are not yet shut down) near me.

He should do the decorating in his Mums house, that wallpaper is dreadful!

+1 (though i like blues too)

i just don't like blanket statements (e.g. "all shred has no soul" etc.). there are good and bad players and musicians in most forms of music.
