Cold Sweat doing Killswitch Engage's Rose of Sharyn
« on: February 11, 2009, 12:01:31 AM »
Hey there,

This is a cover of Killswitch Engage's Rose of Sharyn, using my Cold Sweat loaded Blackmachine B2. I used an Elmwood M60 (panned right) and a Diezel VH4 (panned left), recorded via impulses.

Hope you enjoy it!

Awesome as always Nolly! I wonder what Cold Sweats would be like in my PRS... im listening to a fair bit of KSE and similar bands lately and my playing has veered greatly in that direction.

Great sound Nolly, very detailed and precise but has a warmth/depth to the tonality.
For some reason I thought you had a Ceramic Pig bridge & CS neck, I know you have tried a fair few in there.
You have a really nice detailed top end there, something I am getting from a VHII's basswood combination.

P.S. Played it a good few times now, nothing wrong with that at all - top draw stuff.

I will have Painkillers in my B2 and not change my mind. I will have Painkillers in my B2 and not change my mind.

Wicked, glad you guys like it! Listening back now I wish I'd used more gain on the Elmwood, it's still a bit twangy. I suppose it's a new amp being recorded for the first time though, so it was hard to judge.

Sounds nice together, the Elmwood sounds warmer. The playing was nice too, usually your stuff is waaay to technical for me, but it had a nice feel then

Thanks mate, it's funny, because the VH4 is definitely the darker of the two. I did use different impulses for each amp (and in fact different ones for different multitracks of the same amp), so I guess that's why it comes across like that. Shows how much you can trust clips eh!

Awesome clip mate, great playing! Must say I did try a VH4 and was pretty unimpressed, I think the other amp sounded better. But then I am pretty hard to please when it comes to amp sounds, hehe. I don't think I'll ever be happy until I've had a chance to crank up a Powerball properly with the Engl Pro 4x12 cab.

 Different interpretations of words.

I meant warmer as in a little looser, not in a negative way though. Kind of like it was breathing a bit more, whereas the VH4 just put out

Yo Nolly,

How are you getting the signal into your computer from the head to impulse it? The VH4 has no D.I. out on the back I was wondering how you got a signal from the head.

I would really like to record my Einstein at home instead of using software amps and follow your route of using impulses.

Cheers

Just run a cable from the amp's FX send to your interface. Keep a cab (or dummy load) connected though. You can turn the master all the way down if you want to record silently, some amps even will still send a signal when on standby, but the Diezels don't.
