I have a very dark sounding les paul which i love, very clear, fat and warm... Looking for a pickup that has smooth highs and mids with tight bass as the bass can get a little flubby if to much bass is added due to it being a dark Mohangy sound...Both for Lead and rythm tune to Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
Since you're already playing through a dark sounding amp, my advice would be to go for something in-between (dark/bright sounding). Cold Sweats
look like the perfect pickups for your Les Paul...they'll cut through your dark sounding Mesa and through the dark sounding mahogany body of your Les Paul. If you choose for dark pickups, you'll definately get mud with your set-up. That's why it's so important to know the woods from your Les Paul and to know your set-up, your amp, your playing etc. Another point is that every Les Paul is different (in terms of individual tone and playability), so they all react in their own way to the same pickups. It's always 'guessing', 'hoping' and 'praying' that the pickups will fit the vibe of your Les Paul...it could be very frustrating.
The 'best' way is to follow your own thoughts (after Tims advice). You are the only person that knows your own set-up, playing and guitar (in terms tone/playability).
