« on: February 20, 2009, 02:42:17 AM »
Im going to order my calibrated set of cold sweats as soon as my paycheck comes in i was thinking of getting them with gold covers with the bare knuckle engraving but im wondering if i could through something other than gold in there hmm... Its a wine red les paul with gold hardware and cream mounting rings.

Nice looking guitar. Open cream with gold screws gets my vote.

Hmm that would look rather nice, From my experience there is a tonal difference between covered and uncovered correct? ive allways felt smoother and clearer tone come out of covered pickups.

Ive been looking at the rebel yells and they are so tempting to buy over the cold sweats... but im really curouis to try a pup with a ceramic magnet after hearing nolly's tone in the black machine i can help but to need it smooth, with bite and clarity ah...

What mark series amp do you have i have a IV right now and am gasing for a IIC+

All of the above are nice suggestions, but I would stick with good 'ol gold covers. B.K.P. real gold plate pickups look gorgeous.

( Lovely guitar by the way ! )   :)

The conventional wisdom is that covered means a tiny bit less high end, and a little bit less noise :)

For what it's worth, I think you should spring (or try to trade) for nickel hardware, then get zebra pickups, like in that picture. I think it looks great!

Zebra would be my ideal look but with the mark iv i have, feedback is a strong issue you feel it in the humbucker mark series amp owners who use gain over 5 will know what i mean. so thats what im leaning towards the covered.

When i borrowed a friends explorer it was a little stronger and noiser (same pickups a slight bit hotter)
his were uncovered mine were covered so yea.... I think gold with the engraving will do it

btw does anyone know where in the order for i can add engraving i cant find that option

I think Shaman is a mesa user, so I wouldn't worry too much about the cover affecting anything, it may just have been sh!tty potting of te Gibson explorer pikcups.

When you go through the order process, there is a little suggestion/comment box at some point, ask for engraving there

Yes, a covered pickup generally has very slightly less treble, but Tim winds his pickups to account for this.
