Bugera 6260...should i buy
« on: February 23, 2009, 08:47:01 AM »
Hi Guys, i have the chance to buy a Bugera 6260 second hand for £250, should i get it as i'm looking for an amp for gigging with a Metal band? i'm not sure of the build quality of these amps as i haven't heard much of them, but for £250 would it be a bargain? i'm assuming it will be bone crushingly loud, but i want to know the quality of the tone and build

I can use a mates Marshall 4x12a until i have enough funds for a cab to match

According to HC the major issue is reliability.

So although it is super cheap, I would buy only after extensive testing.

Cheers for the heads up hunter, it looks like i'd be better of going for a new laney GH50L, although if i sell my drumkit, it will be AxeFX all the way (and possibly a marshall 50/50)

uhm... it seems like most of those harmony central reviews are written just by prejudice... if you read well most reviewers start saying that "a friend of a cousin of their girlfriend said that..." but never actually played a bugera! well, i have got a 333xl. in a year or so it did not explode yet, it sounds absolutely great (it's exactly - more or less - the kind of sound i'm after) and i can put it among the best gear i've ever bought. maybe i'm just lucky, i don't know... if you have got the money for a tube laney go for it, but you won't get such a brutal tone anyway! the 6260 kicks ass!
just a thing: buy it new, price difference is too small to justify the risk.

i read some review and the only bad one is from a guy claiming all sort of technical issues and saying that controls are useless (no, they aren't, quite sensitive, indeed) , sound is cr@p (well' it isn't by no mean) , support HAS TO BE abysmal even he never tried to contact them and volume is "not like the real thing" and closer to a conservative 60W. the guy either blew a couple of tubes or blew his bloody ears... :) i play mine at 2-3 and it moves tonnes of air... of course i'm talking about my 333, but you know what i mean...

Thanks for the comments dheim, i'm probably going to p/x my harlequin for LazyNinjas VH100R that is in the seconds out section, but if i manage to sell more of my gear i may pick up a bugera as a 2nd or (if it brings the Brootalz like you say!!!) 1st amp.

Or look out for a second hand 5150  (or 6505) or 5150-II (or 6505+), as these were the inspiration for the 6260 and are very solidly built. Oh, they also slay :)

New i've seen them at 320 so it's not such a great bargain.
