NAD & NPD

Some new bits for myself, since selling off some other bits of gear. First up is Twinfans Laney Klipp, which has been modded to Marshall Superlead specs (done by our Martinw at Martamp). It's an early 70s head, i believe they stopped making them in '73 or '74, but you can't date it further- Laney don't have any info regarding the serial numbers on the Klipps. Really nice condition amp for the age :)

The sound?

Well, when I fired her up, i was expecting far lower gain than what comes- she's a monster! Like other older Marshalls, it's got the quad input (Hi and Low on a bright and dark channel) , and it sounds good in all of them, and jumpered too for the classic setup. Turn the preamp volumes down and turn the master up a little, and there's a nice clean that's warm and full of character, turn the preamp volumes up, and the fun really starts :) With each set about half way, you get a great G'n'R tone- something which I was looking for in an amp. Turn each up further, and you get a really meaty sounding dirt... by balancing the bright and dark channels you can get so many different tones. The switchable JCM800- style boost that has been installed is really gainy- above 3:00 it sounds too gainy and a little too loose to be an 800, but i've never been after a really tight sound anyway, so it's to my style. Rolling back the volume on the guitar cleans the amp up nicely too, which is always useful for those mid-song cleaner passages :)

Overall i'm really impressed with the amp so far, even though i've only had a couple of hours to play on it... expect some Klipps in the near future! (see what i did there? ;))

Secondly is a Korg Pitchblack tuner that i bought a couple of weeks ago:

Really well built unit- feels really sturdy indeed (the enclosure is metal, it's difficult to see from the pictures online). Tuning is really accurate and easy with the large display, and the different display modes are a nice little addition. Nothing else to really say about it- a tuner is a tuner, y'know? I've used the Boss TU-2 a few times, and i much prefer this one. Comes with a battery too, which is nice (until i get a powerbrick type unit to power the pedalboard).

Haven't bought any gear for a while, so it's nice to have a couple of new toys to play with :)

That tuner looks quite.. hi-tech, lol

Was there a problem with the BOSS TU-2?
