metalize my double fat Strat
« on: February 24, 2009, 09:06:11 PM »
hello,

I've got a Fender Double Fat Strat (alder body, maple neck & fretboard, OFR, 2 hum) that I want to turn into a fire-breathin old-school metal machine

my Strat is nice and pretty lookin...I want it to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. raging tight metal crunch and harmonics up the arse.

also, in addition to awesome crunch and soloing, I love, L-O-V-E electric clean tone!!!!!!!!!! that spooky heavy metal "intro clean" with delay and a touch of chorus.

which pair of Bare Knuckle humbuckers would be a good start?

my amps are a Marshall 2203 stack fronted with a Matchless Cool Box booster, and a Fender Twin.

thanks!

First off, welcome. I'll only talk about the pickups I've had experience of, but there's plenty of people around who have played em all, so my take is by no means definitive.

Holy Divers are a bloody good old school heavy rock pickup, very clear and articulate with loads of harmonics. Not ultra powerful, but enough (my bridge has a 15.5k output, the neck is 7.7k).

If you're after something with a bit more kick, the Nailbomb (which I used to own) is great - seriously powerful, tight, clear with very good harmonics, while remaining fairly uncompressed.

For a cr@pload of power, there's always the Warpig - huge power, quite a compressed sound, incredibly tight with massive harmonic potential, but also cleans up beautifully (and still has a fair old kick when coil-tapped).

Hope that helps a bit, or at least provides something of a kick-off to the discussion. It might also be worth mentioning some of the bands/artists whose stuff you play so the recommendations could be narrowed down a bit. All the best, Si
Warpigs.

Hails Man
ill paste what i just wrote down in another thread
with the addition of a WARPIG too. it matches it very well but i think a nailbomb will match it even better

I can only recomend you a bridge pickup, since i never played a bkp Neck.
so, my advice you be a Nailbomb Neck
i posted some clips of it here on the players section
www.myspace.com/thyresis
and www.youtube.com/wfd666

Thyresis: the bolder guitar is a nailbomb in a charvel fusion deluxe. the thinner is a JB. in an ash bodied esp mii deluxe.

in my videoclips page, search for the tERRORIZER - FEAR OF NAPALM COVER
it was done with the Nailbomb through my 5150
Hope it helps

Ceramic Warpig for bridge - unreal crunch and harmonics too

Regular neck Warpig - so good that Jazz players use it with a clean amp

A Cold Sweat Neck would work really well too
