80s Hard Rock and Hair Metal Tone In Basswood RG
« on: February 27, 2009, 01:48:13 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm totally new when it comes to BareKnuckle Pickups, so forgive my lack of knowledge. My question is, what would be the best pickup combination for a basswood Ibanez RG (maple neck and rosewood fretboard) for 80s hard rock and hair metal ? (Think Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Twisted Sister, etc.)

My amp is a Line 6 POD X3 (I Love it :D) , which has more than enough gain on its many amp models, so I don't really need a pickup that's pushing the amp too hard

Maybe the pickups should also add warmth to the tone overall, given my basswood RG sounds somewhat thin.

I'd appreciate your help, thanks ! :D

twisted sister (duncan custom) and classic whitesnake (gibson dirty fingers) = cold sweat
scorpions and motley crue sound more medium output alnico pickups

probably an emerald will get you in the ballpark

a rebel yell might be too bright
if you want something hot and thick, but keeping top end warmth, try the holy diver
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
