100W combos with a single V30
« on: March 01, 2009, 12:16:49 AM »
I was browsing through ENGL range and this tech spec got me confused (a 100W amp with a 60W speaker). Truth, I am a noob, but can anyone explain how this works? Thanx... :)

I never realised that... hell the ENGL Screamer with the single V30 is a bit risky but this is plain silly.

You're talking about the Sovereign 1x12 combo I expect.

Just asking for trouble !  That amp probably puts out 60W at about 4 on the MV.

actually the new Raider100 uses the same concept. I am going to look into other amp maker inventories to see if I can find more examples. I am not looking to buy a new amp, I am quite happy with my beginner rig, but I am really curious from the technical point of view...

Maybe they think nobody is ever gonna crank a 100w combo up loud enough for it to matter that the V30 can only handle 60w.  I's be wanting a 150w speaker in there min if it was me.

I'm sure that the V30 that Mesa use is modified to handle 90w - maybe Engl have the same spec speaker ???

Nah that's the C90 isnt it? black widow C90 im sure

The ones in the ENGL's are good ol' V30's that we know and... sometimes love.

The cheaper cabs have V60's or something, which are crud.

is it not set up as 60w for the internal speaker... but rated can go up to 100w with an extension cab?
