Flying V Metal - Which pickup!?

Yes, another dumb thread like this.

So, the style we play is an Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath/late 70's Judas Priest sound, but we've contemporised the sound so it's modern, closest I can figure is the guitar tone from The James Murphy track on here. Number 10, called Six Shooter.
Now, I've done my homework around the site and I have an idea of the set I'm going for, but I'd like your opinions just in case I'm steering in the wrong direction.

In a V - mahogany? I'd say something along the lines of Holy Diver (but might be too dark in mahogany?) or Cold Sweat. Should easily be able to reach those tones...

Painkiller is an out and out no. Too much high end from what I'm after, and don't want another set of ceramics in my V.

I was actually considering the Rebel Yell set, from the various soundclips I've heard from the site. The Cold Sweats are very nice indeed, although the one thing that puts me off them is that I'm not keen on the rhythm guitar tone on the Thin Lizzy song!

The Holy Diver is just lacking a little bit of something for me. Thanks for all the advice, appreciate it! I have a feeling this could probably be merged with the other Cold Sweat vs. Rebel Yell thread, haha!

Why no Nailbomb?

The Nailbomb isn't exactly tailored for a warm, classic metal sound. Having said that, the MM sounds amazing but too much high end for the sound I'm after right now.

Although, I just found sonicshake's sounds...man that sounds really good and might just swing me on the Cold Sweat.

SS's Rebel Yell clip made me do a sex wee, though. Somebody help me!

the nailbomb seems to be more suitable for that song, but I think it might get dark in a Gibson V/Explorer type
unless yours have a maple top or something
I'd get a Cold Sweat set, unless you want a darker/spongier tone on bridge rhythms

I can't see why you wouldn't love a Cold Sweat
it's grainy like the 500t, but WAY clearer, with a tighter low end, brighter but warmer top and mids never get all messy like the 500ts mids
it has less output, but still very hot
it has a strong and crunchy thick cutting tone without sounding spikey or harsh

I had the 500t, the Holy Diver, the Miracle Man, the Painkiller, played the Warpig
my favorite bridge pickup is definitely the Cold Sweat (sorry, my little Diver :lol:)

I think it will sound even better in a Gibson V than it does in my MIJ Les Paul copy

Like I said in another thread with RY vs. CS, they were the two strong options for me too. If you listen to the clips (and Tim told me 8)), you'll hear that the RY has more aggressive mids and a little tamer highs, whereas the CS has smoother mids and more cut in the highs.

Now, I only own the CS set, but the already mentioned words tight, thick and cutting are right on the money. It depends on what you're after for that guitar. If your guitar puts out a lot of mids, you'll get a thick and tight, articulate growl with the CS.
But I can't imagine you going wrong with the RY either. I just have the experience with the CS  :)

The CS I think is just a tad too thick for me, Rebel Yells win! Now, I have to wait until I get my tax rebate back from the Australian govt to buy 'em!

the 500t is f-spaced

.....but you should be fine with either the 50mm or 53mm spacing.  And you're probably better off ordering the pickup with long legs, because of the way it's mounted in the scratchplate (and sits quite high above it).
