n00b computer recording error...
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:30:36 PM »
...possibly... no idea if it's something I've done or what, here's the problem:

I have an Athlon 1800 machine running a Novation Speedio USB sound card and Cubase SX3. It's been fine until today, usually if I have lag issues I unplug it, and then reinstall it. Nope, not today! Whenever I press Play or Record there's about a second's delay and then it starts running. Of course this is going to hinder recording. I have tried changing sample rates etc to no avail.

Does anyone have any little bits of info / little tricks I can try to get this working again whilst I'm saving up for a spangly new machine and software? I have tried a system restore to no avail.   :(

Update: May have solved the latency problem but have now lost MIDI click track, lol. If I solve this please feel free to forget I posted this, I'll try and delete it. Unless anyone has similar problems and wants the fix....

Update again: Ok, solved that too. See? I told you it was a n00b error.

If anyone wants to know, the first problem was sooooo simple I should stab my own eyes out with a rusty fork...
I forgot to check that the default ASIO device hadn't changed itself...it had. I had to change the ASIO device back to the Speedio. It was that simple! The second problem was just a matter of restarting the machine...DUH!

The thing I can't figure out though, is why this happened in the first place. I know that it was a result of me trying to install a copy of Drum Kit From Hell Superior, but absolutely no idea why that should have had such an adverse effect on my Speedio.... veeery strange.

I swear, when I have some money, the first thing I am going to do is go to one of these specialist Audio Computer manufacturers and get me something sweet made, and buy a copy of the latest Cubase and DKFH. Only then will I be set up for world musical domination. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!

I want to get some legit riggidge but its simply toooo damn expensive.

well done on problem solving though perhaps youd make a good studio engineer, most of what they do is problem solve.

Ooo, I dunno... Cubase etc confuse the poop out of me, lol. I know how to work the basic parts but usually if programs like that have a problem I'm stumped. It took me a good few hours just to fix this one.  :D

Although I do like the sound of studio engineering. Physical stuff like broken equipment would be my special, I'm all over that action. There's nowt can't be solved with a soldering iron or a roll of gaffer tape.
