Shobet, I love the Hamers. Are they Chaparrals?

Or are they Centauras?  :)

Indeed they are Centauras, and you can pick 'em up cheap if you can find them. The diablos, californians  and chaperrals are harder to come by and fetch a bit more money.

I blame Priest and Living Colour for my love of Hamers.

The problem with so-called "hair metal" guitars at the price you're talking about is the Floyd.  A decent Floyd (i.e. an OFR or a Schaller) costs nearly that much on its own, so a new guitar at that price is going to have a cheap clone made of low grade soft steel rather than a decent one

+1, exactly. :)

Now there's a band!  :D

But I remember Vernon Reid more for his green/white/pink muliticolour ESP with EMGs and a little hologram sticker between the pickups.  I spent ages trying to find those stickers!  Went to a great gig at the Marquee where I was standing right at the front hanging on to Vernon's monitors (sounds painful!) for the whole show.

You gotta love Hair Metal gee-tars  ;)

My Road Flare Red Ibanez RG550s (two original 87/88s and an RG20th reissue):

My Pearlescent White Kramer Baretta (from 86/87):

You might get a beat up Ibanez for £200-£300 if you're very lucky, but I've not seen a neon one on eBay for a loooooooooong time.

My black Jackson in the pic above is for sale at £275 if you can live without the bright colour  ;)

Is that the Baretta I was playing in Sounds Great a few weeks ago? If not it looks identical

I guess the 2nd wave of bands like Poison, Warrant, Bulletboys, Britny Fox, Every Mothers Nightmare, Danger Danger, Enuf Znuff, White Lion, Skid Row , Vain etc were considered Hair Metal

At the risk of being pedantic, White Lion and Poison are the only two there that are second wave, all the rest are third wave...it's usually done on the release date of their debut album

1981-4; First wave, bands like Motley Crue, WASP. Innovators of the style.

1985-7: Second wave, Poison, White Lion. Most had formed in the first wave era and were influenced by them rather than pioneering the style themselves.

1988 + : Third and final wave, most only got a few releases out before being crushed by Grunge. Imitated the imitators, and by and large sucked a whole lot of c--k while they did it. Britny Fox is an abomination.

Oh god, I knew we'd end up getting all definition-y.....

Makes a change to be talking about Hair Metal instead of Black, Death, Extreme.... whatever metal, I suppose.

I hope you don't include Enuff Z'Nuff as "imitating the imitators and sucking a whole lot of c--k".  They are (well, were) excellent, I don't care what wave they surfed in on....

Nicked it from the following thread http://bbs.espguitars.com/showthread.php?t=11110 which has some ESP customness in it. :)

Nope.  Theirs has a rosewood board, is well beat up, as is priced at £999

I got mine a while back (from them actually) in superb condition for £499.....

Sorry, I didn't mean they were of alternate persuasions, I meant that I think they're terrible. My point was that the early bands of the hair metal movement have by and large been the most popular (GnR being an exception).

Yeah, I didn't think you were implying they were Friends of Dorothy!   We'll have to agree to disagree (to an extent), I love Enuff Z'Nuff, and probably some of the other "third wave" bands too.

I can't deny that Britny Fox were truly terrible, but I do really like that song!

Hair metal will be back - all it takes is some of these emo types I see round town to cheer up a bit - buy a hairdryer and some super hard 'studio line' extra hold gel and we are off!

I saw them support Anthrax in 1988 two nights on the trot at The Hammersith Odeon. They were great and he was the first shredder I had seen live at the time. I was about 5 rows in one night. Anthrax though were out of this world for me at that time!
