Rebel Yells w/ Les Paul into 1961 JMI AC30
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:17:46 AM »
This is my band, Black River Drive.

www.myspace.com/blackriverdrive

The songs were produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) and Clint Murphy at York Street Studios and Roundhead studios in New Zealand (with the exception of the demo, recorded by a studio assistant).  The songs were mastered at Sterling Sound NYC.

The amp I used on both Everywhere and Here Beside You is a 1961 Vox AC30 and yes, it is my pride and joy.

"Everywhere" is currently receiving airplay on NZ radio nationwide.

I have two les pauls set up identically with a Rebel Yell set in each.  I love these pickups.  I have tried MQs and they are great but I missed the crunch of 'buckers.  I found the Crawler set did not have quite the balls of the Rebel Yells.  The RYs to me have just enough balls to rock out but not so much that the tone of the guitar itself gets lost.  They take a Gibson les paul to a new level.  The bridge pickup now has a liveliness and depth that it never had with the scratchy stock gibson pickups, and the neck is full and juicy sounding.

Finally! I was able to listen to two of the songs, and I really like them!! The music, and the singing are really nice! Great for a rainy Monday morning, we went through Pink Floyd this morning, and some wave sounds only, so it felt good listening to these two songs! Best to you and your band. Greetings from the birthplace of the Blues!!!

Apologies Sam, I was one of those who listened but didn't get a chance to comment( the Mrs was standing over me wanting to go shopping bless her) and I clean forgot when I did get back.
I liked the songs and obviously the recording and production was pretty darn good. I think though that this works against you as it sounds produced and as a listener I can't be sure of how much of the sound I hear is BKPs. Forgive me, I don't mean that as a criticism or negative comment but what I did hear was excellent and I hope you get a lot of airtime and success.

Fair call - I guess I hadn't factored in that perhaps the sound quality would actually be a negative thing for people wanting to research the sound of these (great) pickups.

ALL the guitars without exception on all three songs are recorded on les pauls loaded with RYs so if you can hear a guitar, that's a BKP loaded guitar.

Pretty much the same as has been said, sounds polished and very very good. I've got a set of RYs on order, good to know they can do stuff like this as well as proper metal!

Yeah mate they are a nice metal pickup actually, not like an EMG or something where all you hear is the amp - you still hear the sound of the guitar itself even with the amp going to flat out on 11.  I think you'll be very happy with them in your V.

Not sure if I like the song... The tones are very nice, but the song is too MTV oriented...

Although I'm sure that if it plays 10 times it'll stick on my head, as always happens with pop rock songs on radio :)

Sorry you're not feeling it.  I've got a new one coming with a bit more fire to it than this one, will post when it's done.

I originally played it just after you posted and thought it was good - but just  played it again and like it a lot more. One of those songs that seem to grow on you after you've heard it a few times - very catchy and well produced.

Very professional. Guitar tone didn't stick out, but it sat nicely in the mix. Something that is often lost with music now
