I've not tried a Toneport, but I was using a POD XTLive exclusively when I started installing BKPs - these are the same models/algorithms I believe?
I definitely heard and felt a difference. At first I worried that I was justifying the expenditure to myself, but after a few weeks even my wife noticed the improvements in my tone and, more importantly, my playing :D
Others might tell you that you really need to have this or that valve amp to get the true benefit... and this might be true, I don't know, but for my money the POD models are good enough to warrant upgrading your pups to BKPs :D
What you might find is that the POD models don't quite cut it enough for you after a few months of feeding BKPs into them - that's what happened to me, and I switched to a Vox Tonelab (still use the POD for some stuff). I'm still firmly in the "modellors are OK for what I do" camp though!
