Fixed bridges with fine tuners

Would these units be low enough to work if the distance between the body and the strings was just the fingerboard?  Like with a neck through guitar where the neck was completely flush with the body, the only height coming from the fingerboard...

In that case, assuming there's also no back-angle on the neck, I don't think there's any bridge low-profile enough.

You'd probably have to recess the bridge, and use flat metal pickup rings (or direct mount them).

I think it would be too low, to be honest.  You'd hit the top of the guitar with every pick stroke.

no, fretboards are about 6mm/1/4" , add 2mm ish for frets and the same for action.  very few bridges come in at less than 10mm.  and these kahler designs work best with sadddles higher so you would struggle mounting them at the lowest possible position

What do you folks think of the schaller hannes? Seems like a logical idea. Do try to cut through schallers borderline hysterical "we've got a new product and we're plugging it as hard as we can" blurb though :lol:

It looks clever and sexy and high-tech, I guess, but there are too many component parts for my taste.  I like simple things. 

I'm sure it would be great on a "modern" guitar.

I fully see your point. Its got no rep. Its untested. Its got lots of endorsment blurb (a few luthiers have used it, but I dont know if they're good or not - if youre interested, the info is readily googlable)

But...but....but....there is no "Legra". Bob makes anything. Theres everything in there from a battle-axe thing to a double necked les paul.

Now, my new Legra, thats another matter. Its most certainly not the norm, but asthetically it would be great on it. But thats not a significant concern. The kahler you suggested was front runner till I found this, and that was when I thought it was hideous. Now they're about equal. The idea behind this bridge (transmitting the vibration of strings independently) seems like a very good one. I like, but am suspicious.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... but he has a "house style".  And it is a modern style.  Even his Teles look modern.

That's not meant as a criticism.  It's almost a compliment.

Mark, I say go for it.  From what I've heard Bob likes new technology, and I think that PQs right - it's the kind of bridge that goes with the Legra image, if you know what I mean.

Just to clear up a few points; MDV's new guitar is neck though but won't have the simple "plant a fingerboard on that plank" type of construction; the bridge needs to be about 11mm high; unfortunately the Schaller 455/456 only goes down to about 17mm in the centre.
Seems like you've got me sussed I am a sucker for new technology but only if the blurb about it stands up to rigorous scrutiny; I think the tech spec for this new Schaller bridge does.

That Ibanez bridge looks like it is recessed into the body; unfortunately routing the top is one of things that have been ruled out by the bloody awkward customer other wise I could have used any bloody bridge.  :lol: :lol:

I'm sure that works a treat for Joe Satriani, but it seems bizarre to me that anyone would want a fixed bridge that incorporates all the annoying, fiddly features of a Floyd Rose.
