RiffRaff Metal Attempt
« on: March 24, 2009, 08:35:41 AM »

Ok, I am not a metal dude and I lack skill to get that sound right, but a forumite asked for it, so I tried to come up with some D-tuned brootalz riffs. My feeling is that the RR is very much able to pull it off with the right setup and playing, as it's very tight and crunchy.

Thanks dude!

That's quite nice for something thrown together very quickly. I like the tone. Edgy and hard rocking! What amp setup did you use?

This was Axe FX, VH4 Model, through VHT 2502 and Bogner 4x12 through a single SM57. Volume was very low, I think I should crank that bugger up more for this kind of tone, but poor neighbours don't deserve that kind of treatment early morning.

I guess that you're quite right about the neighbours. I wouldn't be glad if someone cranked up an evil metal amp early morning.

By the way. How's the axe fx working? It sounds pretty nice on the clips you've been posting. I'm a bit shy of these amp modelling things, but that's probably because I ran into a line6 modelling amp I had to practise on in my old band. I couldn't get a decent sound out of that thing.

But i guess it could be nice to have the possibillities to mod an amp like the vh4 that realy suits the heavy genre. According to this my problem is that I use a Musicman HD-130 which isn't the ideal amp for heavy tunes.

Good stuff Hunter - that AxeFX sounds very good indeed! A bit out of my price range though!
I think I hate being indecisive.
