A bad bolt on will be just as good as a bad set neck

Yer backtracking. You can tell by how you arent saying the same thing as you were before, and yet are still being argumentative

Its really very simple

A good set neck is a good join. That would be wood:wood, minimal amount of glue.

A good bolt on is a good join. Wood to wood, tight (as in, in contact, has-to-be-pulled-out-of-the-heel-doesnt-just-fall-off) contact

A bad one of either is also bad.

And all points in between.

Not "one is as good as the other" or "one is as bad as the other" because in any given comparison between the two a set could be better, a bolt on could be better, they both could be equivelent and be cr@p or both equivelent and be good.

Shall I draw a picture. Cos I can and will illustrate this graphically.

No, I'm saying exactly the same thing  Quality of construction is the important factor, not the method. You're the one who keeps trying to have the last word  :P

Righto.

Doesnt matter (that you dont seem to know what youre saying from one post to the next) - the guy with the questions got the right answers.

Since you bring up last words...feel free. My work here is done :)

Now now ladies...

Anyway, i played a friends Japanese Jackson DK2M in white the other day, and it absolutely blew me away.

£370 for a very good quality Japanese made instrument, with good pickup's and a pretty good floyd rose? that plays really really well and sounds really really good?

(though i think the prices have increased)

it sounded better than any other guitar i'd ever played for metal, i couldn't beleive i was playing a guitar that shared similar specifications to a Strat! The low end, the meetyness... astounding. I know where my monies going if i ever want a 'budget' guitar again.

Ibanez are still chucking out Indonesian cr@p with rubbish pickups at that price! and don't get me started on the ESP's in that range... unless you enjoy agathis. Though they do at least play well, which is something i can't say about the low end Ibanez's i've experienced lately.

But anyway... rant over.

Yeah, I've never played an MIJ jackson that wasnt a well put together insrument with high bang for buck. Ibanezes and especially LTD in the same price range just cant touch them. My DX1 (top end MIJ circa '98) is still one of my main 3 guitars - inferior to, but hanging with a custom shop dean and my legra.

Awesome to have confirmation on their quality! I'd easily have bought my mates guitar off him right there and then and happily seen it next to my PRS Custom 24, the PRS is better for sure but the Jackson really pulls its weight. I'd definitely have one just for my heavier tones, and floyd fun.

The only thing i would have changed would have been the Floyd, we both agreed that we'd both be happy to pay the extra to not have the licensed one and to have a good proper one.

It's a shame that the first Jackson i picked up was a really nasty thing, with a HUGE U shaped boat like neck. I'm 6ft2 and have rather large hands and i couldn't stand it.

I always meant to pimp my RR3, anyone got any ideas on how I might attach a strap button to the back of the bolt on plate? ie so it might be more balanced

I was thinking cut a hole in the plate and get someone to weld it on, I can't see solder holding it

I may have dreamt it, but arent there strap-bolts? like, you replace one of the bolts with a bolt thats also a strap button... i'm sure i haven't dreamt this...

or maybe it was a replacment plate that had it.

Surely something like that exists...

Yes they do. There was one on my dean Z (until I moved the peg to where it bloody well should be - I hate strap pegs on heels, they get in the way)
