MM in neckthrough guitar

has anyone got any experience with MM pickups in a maple neckthrough guitar with mahogany wings and rosewood fretboard? it should be a quite bright guitar, so MMs should sound powerful but not too bassy... is it right?

i've got a miracle man bridge pickup in a 5-piece mahogany/maple/ebony neck with ebony fretboard, with mahogany wings and maple top... and a floyd. and oh yeah, it's a V :lol: . probably not exactly the same (!), then, but if no-one has anything closer, i guess i could tell you what it's like, if you want... :)

I havent tried it, but I guess your guess is right. The through is going to put some lows in that arent the norm for maple, cos the guitars going to resonate with lower low modes, the maple itself we all know about, the highs wont change too much...I'd say you'd get a really, really tight (what lows maple does have are very fast indeed) and quite deep, but not overbearing low end and a rather a lot of high mids, highs and clarity.

But thats just a guess from maple throughs with totally different pickups in...the closest I've actually played is maple through with an 81 - this should be similar but with more low end. If you can get hold of a KH2 to try out that wont be a million miles away.

i'm going to have a custom (well, semi-custom, i can choose between some fixed options and the shape is that, but actually i like it) guitar at a very interesting price... i prefer the look of wenge every day of the year... if i'm not wrong it should be a bit middier and warmer than maple, and this is just a plus for me. rosewood fingerboard to add more warmth (and of course i prefer the feel of rosewood, ebony is too cold and hard)...
what do you think?

simply put the lower guitar's mahogany wings and rosewood board to the upper wenge-necked one and you'll have an idea...

But

They have the same bridge as the aurora!

a schaller hannes bridge! i tried it, it's very comfortable, and the bridge-through-body arrangement looks sturdy and able to sustain for a looong time...

to tell the truth i didn't look around on the web for opinions, it's just a very superficial impression i had from a quick test... my luthier (the one who makes those guitars) says that retrofitting a guitar with one of those is a real pain in the ass, but they're worth the effort...

Those look like they say Conklin on the headstock....so I have to ask, if you can afford conklins, what the hell are you doing playing through a POD?!?!?!

it's not conklin but cicolin (much more italian... :))... i've got a (cheap) valve stack too, and this year i think i'll buy a new (a bit less cheap) head... but PODs are not this bad! ;) i actually enjoy playing on my xt, and at home i've simply got no other option!

no, not yet. he's the luthier who made all the work on my guitars, by the way... the website doesn't really work in italian either! not a smart policy, i'd say... i found those pictures on a free web based gear market (a musician's ebay) that's one of the few smart things we've got in italy since renaissance...  :)
they're sexy but a bit on the thick side... i love les pauls so this is not an issue, but they're far from the black machine philosophy! anyway they're sturdy and well made... having seen the stages of the process i can tell you for sure. oh, if you find some price on the web i'd like to let you know that - partly because i've got already the pickups - partly because i'm a loyal customer (with a lot of guitars and pickup changes! :)) i'm not paying all that money!

edit: i mean thick bodies, necks aren't slim either but you can have the shape you prefer... i think i'll go for something in-between 60 les paul and ibanez... let's say an esp eclipse neck

i had a miracle man in a maple neck through steinberger copy. its sounded utterly excellent. not too much bass, nice and mids-y, a real hard rock tone, which could do metal as well.

i changed out the miracle man for a cold sweat, which sounds very cool as well (iron maiden-ish), but the miracle man was perfect in that guitar - full sounding, very versatile
