Stonewash Southpaw 7
« on: April 04, 2009, 02:44:21 PM »
Haven't posted anything new up for a while , but this one has finally been completed and customer taken it away to play intensively.
It's a chambered stratty type guitar with an art Deco style F Hole taken from a Dobro
Features BKP mule pickups - 7 string versions

The player is more of a Jazz type player rather than a Brootlz type 7 string player
The low string is there to allow him to add basslines to stuff he's playing
This guitar has been in the works for a long time but the finished result is exquisite
Really sounds great - the customer had specified a blend control for the pickups as well as 2 coil tap switches and a phase reversal switch.
The last 8 frets are scalloped too!
Really versatile - great studio guitar

Looks lovely!  :D

This may be a dumb question, but is it any more difficult to build a left-hander?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

That looks SO good now Jon... After seeing her around undressed you kinda have your eyes opened when she gets all dressed up for the party.

Very nice PDT_003

nice guitar jonathon, what's the advantage to the scalloping the last 8 frets?

I've seen it done before but I never found any info on it's benefits

Scalloping is great for extra control and ease of vibrato and bending
I have all my own superstrats scalloped from the 13th/14th upwards
CAn get so much more fingertip behind a bend that it just makes it easier

Apart from the giant headstock, I love it. Possibly the most apealing strat shaped guitar I've ever seen. Mule 7 respect! 8)

Very nice.

How does the blend control work, Jonathan?  Does it bypass the normal switching?

I love it overall, but I'm not sure about the stonewash. I love the finish on the back though!

That's a really sweet looking guitar Jonathan.

Works like a pan pot on a bass - blends between one pickup and the other
Switches don't have on /off function  - just coil-tap and the third is a phase switch

The customer specified the colour scheme and we got it perfect for him

Oh I'm sure you nailed his requirements, it's just not what I'd chose. I'm still loving the finish on the Tabby, every time I pull that out I stop to admire the way it looks. I got so lucky with that deal! PDT_003 :drink:
