7 String Pickup Recommendation For Sabbath Style Doom
« on: April 08, 2009, 03:41:30 AM »
Hello,

Having just joined this forum, and this being by first post, let me just hello to everyone.

Ok, now on to my question. I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup in a 7 string Schecter Omen. I'm tuned to A and play mostly Sabbath/Celtic Frost-esque  slow to mid paced doom metal. I'm very partial to the tone Tony Iommi has on the Heaven and Hell album as well as the tone Tom Warrior used on the Monotheist album. I was thinking that the VHII might be a good choice assuming there is a 7 string version available. Aside from that I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

Doom? Warpig! A5, not ceramic.

Yes, I immediately thought of those myself, but after listening to the demos that were posted I'm a little apprehensive to try them.  As I'm tuned to A most of the time my biggest concern is always keeping my tone free from excess mud, while, at the same time, keeping enough of the "chug factor" in the palm muted chords which I use the most.

For the millionth time, theres nothing muddy about pigs, even in A. This erroneous notion has only arrisen by contrast with the surgically tight and clear C-Pig, PKs, MM and CS.

A5 pig is the correct recommendation, imo

+1 on A5 Pig - NOBODY could be disappointed with that BEAST of a pickup. Especially for doom; the essence of which it was designed to capture.
LOVING the Mules!

The Schecter Omen 7 uses basswood for it's bodies. Any idea how this will shape the Warpigs tone?
