Short bridge Mule thrash metal clip (w/blackstar ht5)
« on: April 08, 2009, 11:52:11 AM »
This is probably the best blackstar clip I've been able to get but it still doesnt sound close to being as good as it is in the room :( I think some people on here were after some metal blackstar clips so thats what I've been trying to get. For this, the gain was on about 9-10 o'clock with a byoc tubescreamer in front, into g12h30 speakers.

Could just be the pickups I suppose, not enough of a metal voicing or enough compression?

sounds pretty good to me, maybe not enough compresion but it sounds nice and organic i feel and has a nice low end for such a low wattage amp .... is this the head going into a 2x12 cab?? have you tried the combo? or the head with higher rated speaker? such as the g12k-100?
this thing sounds nice ... may have to look into getting one for bedroom shite.... :D

Yeah thats the head into a 2x12 cab, with G12H30 speakers. I really want to try it through something else, I heard V30s and greenbacks are good with it...

I havent tried it with a 4x12 yet. I really want to though, I reckon it could keep up well with a band through one (depending how hard the drummer hits I guess). The ISF thing is quite good, basically to the left its a middy/bright british sound and to the right it gets a bit more "american" sounding, more lower mids and mush.

Heres an old clip I just re-recorded with the Blackstar and Mules

Still a bit fizzy but it sounds quite brutal.

Two very different styles, both done really, really well!! I liked the first clip most. I actually like the fact that it's open and dynamic. Too much compression isn't always a good thing (although I use too much on my own... pot..kettle.. etc).

Good stuff Tom, keep it up!

the testament riff sounds good but the second is a true killer! both riff and tone are excellent. too bad we live at thousand miles of distance... we could kick some ass! ;)

 i'm at work, so i'm a bit confused...
of course i know very well the song, i used to love kreator a lot!
and the only thing i ever really liked about testament were skolnick's solos...

Sounds great. I can also hear the character of those 12h30s. Brootalz is a bit easier to record with Vintage30 than 12H30s, but you do quite well there.

I think 12H30s need 2 mics to bring across what they're like in the room. You either get too much fizz or too much ooomph if you only use 1 mic (unless you can really crank em up and take the mic 1/2 foot away from the cab).

first clip sounds really amazing  8) maybe not enough compression, but who cares, its probably better without it frankly. i give it full marks anyway
