when are gibson gonna give up?

when people stop buying them.  can you blame them for putting out all these mega-buck re-issues when they all sell out before they've even built them?

Yeah, I have seen that Mike Bloomfield model - Hunter started a mammoth thread about it a while ago:

http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=16057.0

Yes, it is just another Les Paul, and you could probably get one just as good for a third of the price.  But it's no more heinous in principle than all the Fender tribute models, or the EVH guitars, or the "built by Paul" PRS (or whatever it's called).  In fact, it's cheap compared to all those.

For all their faults, Gibson still make some fantastic guitars.  I love my ES-339 to bits.

i do like gibson.
its sad to see them milking the name for all its worth. i'd never buy a new one.
i have a second hand custom and im happy. however if i found a les paul supreme at the right price i might consider it. although i might struggle to get BKP's into it.

It seems a bit much considering all he did was the Blue Peter theme tune.

i like gibson: they don't feel like a 100% mass produced guitar, they still have that certain something. ignoring the stupidly overpriced special edition models, i think they command decent value for money if you get a good one.

in general i hate all those "special" guitars that cost 10 times their value and differ from conventional models just for a couple of insignificant features... this one has got just a custom top (that's quite ugly, indeed)... but gibson IN GENERAL range from pretty to great guitars, it's not entirely their fault if someone is so rich and stupid to buy an otherwise stock les paul for twice its normal price!
and, speaking of insane and injustifiable prices, nothing can ever beat a PRS... ;)
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Why pick on Gibson?
How many signature Strats and Teles are there? Plus other variations on that theme. Fender are surely the leaders in the milking dry stakes.

The same could be said of PRS, or most other manufacturers. All of them only have so much they can play with, and naturally they want to sell as many guitars as possible. What's the problem with that?

We the consumer get loads of choice, the main one of which is not to buy one!

There are regular Gibson hate threads on here. Weird.

For me it's love/hate relationship with Gibson in every sense. I love my Les Paul, and quite a few of the other Gibsons I've played I've loved too, but I hate the company. I hate the silly models and body shapes they've been wasting good wood on lately. I hate the fact that they make signature models for people who just happen to be famous, but aren't good guitar players (Billy Joe Armstrong, Tom Delonge, what's next? Jonas Brothers signature?) as well as their endless milking of Jimmy Page, Slash, Pete Townsend, Zakk Wylde etc.
I know Fender are doing the exact same thing but it doesn't matter to me because I simply don't like their guitars.

i don't know - the various delonge models do offer something different actually, to be fair

When they stop making money from it.

If you dont like it, dont buy one. There are plenty of great guitars out there.

I've heard some terrible stories about Gibson from a reliable source.

These guitar of the month abominations are made from left over parts (scr@ps).

Gibson's slogan: "ship it fast and hard, and every guitar ONLY has a 50% it will come back."

And then this quote: " A good friend of mine told me about a famous guitar player that had issues with his Gibson Signature Model and spoke with Henry about it at NAMM.

Seems many players that bought his sig guitar had issues without ANY resolution from Gibby. So, he collected comments from the web, from emails and notes from in-stores, shows, etc.

Anyway, at NAMM he told Henry about the problems, showed him some of the notes and Henry told him: "F*$K those guitar players. They can't afford our new guitars anyway - I want the money from real professionals like doctors and lawyers- you know; real collectors. Guitar players are whiners".

TRUE STORY. I even verified it with a close pal @ Gibby and he said he's heard the same thing from the man himself...

When his deal is over, he's leaving. He's disappointed, pissed and wants nothing to do with them."
