NGD PRS McCarty Rosewood
« on: April 11, 2009, 03:33:06 PM »
:D Today is a good day. I went home to see my parents for easter and thought id pop into Peachideas guitar shop to look at their PRS as they always seam to have great pictures on their site.

I saw what i was after a mccarty tobacco burst custom 24 but it didnt have a rosewood neck which is my ideal spec. However, right next to it was a mccarty 22 with a mccarty burst top and rosewood neck.

instantly holding the rosewood neck i knew i had to have one so the guy checked with the PRS stock importer and they didnt have any with my combination and it would take 9 months to get one + they would be a the new prices and not as cheap, as shops buy in higher volume and negotiate the price down but a one off order would be expensive @ £2800 for everything i wanted.

The mccarty is a real gem. it is perfect. even the colour which wasnt my 1st choice was amazing and so old school LP style. Putting the two guitars together i even prefered it. It has a nice top without patches and missing patterns yet its not a full on over the top PRS top which i dont like. Very tactful.

The guitar had been setup by Martin Booth who makes boutique guitars in the UK. You might have seen his guitars in Gutarist Magazine which have won awards. The guitar played beautifully. The neck is a dream. Ive never played anything that good before. The humbucker tones were LP like and the tapped sound was Fender esque. Not as convincing as the Custom 24 but this guitar was special. It had a quality and a feel to it.

It was 2nd hand but it didnt even have a single scratch or blemish. This meant that it was a bargain. £1699 in a shop set up perfectly by a pro and in mint condition and played great. I think thats a good deal. Looking forward to getting home so I can plug it in and then i will upload pictures to show you guys. best guitar i own without a doubt. I can see why some people may own multiple McCarty's Twinfan!!

It looks that way. Actually there have been a lot of NGD threads on here recently. I can't ever remember it being so busy in such a short space of time. Credit crunch? Pah!

Rosewood necks are great. Ive wanted one a long time. I just wasnt expecting to get a mccarthy. Actually saw Hunters one on ebay and nearly bid. I'll put pics up on monday night when i get access to a camera. I know the score but i had to post before i could prove it!!

I would like to weigh it as well as it was lighter then the cu24 and cu22 i played which is suprising as i thought the mccarty was thicker and the rosewood neck is heavier?  I just think its a killer guitar!! :D

Well, congrats anyways, pics or not. You're at your parent's so you are forgiven, exceptionally :O)

They are great guitars. I'm still not sure what I'll do pickup wise. I like the sound of the originals, they have a special upper mids thing which cuts through very nice, but they squeal like crazy, and I hate that.

You plan to change pickups in any way?

Yeah, 5 if you include the Modern Eagle.  I think Hairy Chris has/had a rosewood neck PRS, but not a McCarty.

And there are also a few regular McCartys and McCarty Korinas.

Congrats.

I was thinking my next purchase would be a Gibson LP Custom Shop, but I'm hearing so many good things about PRS's at the moment, I might change my mind (plenty of time, I have extactly £0 saved up for it :) )

Hmmm, methinks a 245 in smokeburst, that would be SWEET!

245s are very nice indeed. I owned one for about a month - I was surprised that it had a very different feel to a LP.
