« on: April 14, 2009, 11:47:17 AM »
Do you guys can tell me if there is 'a must see' guitar shop(s) to visit during my next weekend in London, and where it is ?

(And any recommendation of the coolest pubs or restaurants are highly welcome !)  :D

Just any shop on Denmark St to be honest. That's the only places I know of.

If you DON'T want to be treated like a piece of shite, don't go to Rockers. They're awfull. Even when I bought a guitar from them I still got treated like I just ruined their lives.

If you fancy a gig (it's a charity event for the Institute of Cancer Research, where I work), there are 4 bands playing at the Barfly in Camden on Sunday 19th from 8pm (doors open at 7pm!). :)

Should be a good night! Plus, the exchange rate makes the £8 entry even better for you ;)

It was one of the better shops on Denmark Street when it was called Roka's and Ron Roka himself was in charge.  I don't know if he's still around, but he was quite a nice bloke.  Most of the people in there now are arrogant gits.

My least favourite Denmark Street shop is Rhodes Music - I never go in there now so it may be completely different, but the bloke who used to "manage" the shop was a complete arsehole.

Hanks is alright if you like acoustics.

i cant remeber which is which. Music Ground kinda has some good stuff but im not not a huge fan of the staff or the prices. Rockers i don't usually go inside now. vintage and rare is cool. rose morris is a bit, i dunno.

what is the place by wunjo that sells all the new stuff? they have Diamond Amps which i feel like trying but im not into the staff in there, or in the other place next to vintage & rare that sells lots of new stock, LTD's, BC Rich etc.

Definitely worth a look in Wunjo - feels like a proper old music shop, and nice guys.

To be honest, I don't think that TPA is the place to go if you're looking for a bargain...

I bought a brand new crybaby in Rokas 20 odd years ago for 48 quid. They were a nice bunch back then. Don't forget the Rock Shop on Charing X Rd, over in Manette St there is another little shop. Macaris is nice too, down towards Cambridge Circus.

I second the suggestions for Vintage and Rare and Wunjo.  If you like weird and wonderful 1960s guitars then upstairs at Music Ground is worth a look.

(And any recommendation of the coolest pubs

Well if you're on Denmark Street, you're just over the road from Soho which is my stamping ground and I can recommend the following pubs:

The Old Coffee House on Brewer Street
The Golden Lion on Dean Street
The Crown and Two Chairmen on Dean Street
The Ship on Wardour Street
The Shaston Arms on Ganton Street
The Clachan on Kingly Street
The George on D'Arblay Street
and if Guinness is your tipple, The Toucan just off Soho Square.

or restaurants are highly welcome !)  :D

The Giaconda Dining Room on Denmark Street is very good but not at all vegetarian friendly.  Round the corner on St Giles High Street are two great Korean restaurants that both do a mean bibimbab.
